where is it best to get a credit card from or easiest?

Good Year, Firestone ? Discount tire? sears?

apply for the chase freedom or something similar, 15 months no interest and a free $100 after spending $500.. easy $100 off your tires and 15 months to pay them off.

 

Depends on what tires you want... The goodyear card was easy enough when I did that. I only got it for the rebate, paid it off right away, then closed it. I don't buy things unless I have the money, so it was rather annoying that they make you do that.

Don't open lines of credit just to get a discount or some other cheap thrill. Opening and closing accounts will hurt your credit score.

 

I'd say don't get a credit card to buy tires unless you know 100% that you can pay it off within a month later. And if you can, then wait a month and buy tires with money you actually have

I would agree with almost everyone else. You should not have to open a line of credit to buy tires. Yes tires are expensive, but just save a little out of our paycheck each month and set it aside or sell something of value that you don't need anymore like takeoff parts or electronics to help with the funds.

 

I just got a set of Nitto Terra Grapplers 265/70R17 at Discount Tires and pulled out cash to pay and the guy asked if I wanted to open an acocunt for 0% for 6 months. It took less than 5 minutes for the whole thing. It will be real easy to pay it off over 6 months. This will not harm credit but reinforce and improve. Free money - no brainer.

 

Bite the bullet and use cash man. Getting a card just to get tires is unwise and will come back to haunt you when your going to need a good score down the line (House, Land, New Tacoma etc). I'm a broke ass student and am in the same "need new tires" boat but I'm not going to consider opening a line of credit to do it.

Hell get used tires of you cant afford new ones. They will only be a band aid but you might have a good deal more time to save up for some mudders or whatever kind your going for.

Everyone that says don't get a card for purchases... Money does not grow on trees for everyone here. I got the card at STS. I had everything paid off within the six months. 3 months went by and they sent me a check for 600 bucks. I overpaid. But if was not worth putting out that cash during oil buying season. The 600 bucks was a bonus after the fact. Money the wife knew nothing about.

Money doesn't grow on trees, but it's a matter of "need" vs "want"

If the tires are worn out and in NEED of replacement, then perhaps putting the purchase on credit is better than moving into the winter season on bald tires.

But if it's a matter of wanting to upgrade or change styles....

No offense to the cash guys, cash is always best, but sometimes its worth it to pay with their card due to the promotion, I know when I opened up the discount tire card to pay for my last set it was a $100 rebate and no interest, so I saved $100 over paying cash, paid it off when I got the bill and then closed the account (and it didnt do anything to my credit score). Everyone is an expert these days. It will be a hit to your report but that will only affect you short term if at all depending on inquiry/line of credit so if your looking to make a major purchase in the near future maybe not worth it. But $100 to me is.

 

I have come to the conclusion its mostlly BS. Tires must pass DOT to be sold in the first place, so there is a min standard. My $90.ea Mastercraft STR tires have been every bit as effective as any high dollar tire IMO. Tires last 40-50 k why spend more money? I don't understand.
