Hi, I just installed 265/70 17 Toyo AT Open Country 2's on my Taco and they rub the inner fender bad on turns.

Trimming would be needed to make them fit. I am going to do a 2.5" lift instead.

I based my decision on the Sticky which said they would fit a stock TRD.

The Sticky cost me an extra $300 because it was wrong!!!!

No harm done though. Its a great excuse to my wife for a little lift!!!!!

Are those wheels the same offset as stock? Many people are running that size on stock Tacomas without issue. Some tires have aggressive side wall tread which can cause rubbing but that's about it.

    Don't they come with 265/70/17's? I bet it's your offset/backspacing

Its not offset because I ran the stock tires on these rims last year and they are the correct offset for the truck.

    Mabe the more aggressive sidewall?

Yeah it's your baskspacing and rim width that is causing the problems. Those look like the black rock wheels which often come in 8.5 or 9" wide wheel and the back spacing is around 5-4.5". Those two added together will cause the tire to rub on the fender lining. I would just do some trimming instead of a lift since it's free and will completely solve your problem. A lift may help, but it may still rub after.

    No it's not.

They are American Racing Mojave and are the correct back spacing and fit.

What do you mean correct? Are they the same width and backspacing as stock wheels or not? Those tires don't have an aggressive sidewall tread, they shouldn't rub. Duratracs have had some cases of rubbing where other tires the same size don't.

Yes they are the same. Like I said I ran stocks on these with no problems. They do have a sidewall tread. These are the AT 2's which are different from the original AT Open Country's.

You are not understanding what the others are saying. Those wheels are not the same back spacing and offset as factory. If you had factory there would probably be no issues.

Just doing a visual on the wheel, it seems to have more offset away from the hub.
Specs would make it easy to tell.
That would be my guess just by eyeballing it :D

I will check the specs. Those wheels work fine with stock tires. They also don't stick out past the wheel wells.

Guarantee its your rims. Two, pretty sure the sticky says with stock rims, not aftermarket with similar specs.

You could get good money for those tires still and pick up some 265/65's again. Not a big deal, learn from your mistakes.

I thought they were close enough!!

Maybe add "exactly stock wheel size"

Anyway I'm getting the toytec 2.5" lift so that should solve the problem.

I want more clearance for driving in heavy snow so it should work out.

    Thanks!
