Got new wheels/tires on my 2WD Tacoma

Last month, I posted regarding getting some new wheels.

Finally got rid of my 15” steel wheels and went to 16” wheels on my 07 Tacoma 5 lug 2WD. I bought these wheels off of ebay and they are originally for a 02-04 Camry/Solara/Sienna. I only went up one size to keep the speedometer reading close to the OEM reading. Overall, the truck has a better ride now, not because of the wheels, but because the new tires are wider, more rigid and have a 800 wear rating with 90K warranty.

I also had to change the TPMS over to the 20-degree sensors on the new wheels. I still need get the new sensors scanned and entered in the ECU by Toyota.

The center bore and bolt pattern on these wheels are the same as the 5 lug steel wheels. The only difference is the offset, which is 50 ET on the new wheels. Thanks spp for this information.


Old wheels/tires -15 X 6 wheels 215/70/15 OEM Firestone Destination LE tires (8.46 in width/26.85 in diameter)
New wheels/tires 16 X 6.5 235/60/16 Michelin HydroEdge Tires (9.25” width/27.10 in diameter)

Any vibrations or balancing issues?

Those things almost look like they are meant to be on the truck from the factory. Great job finding those. How much is Toyota going to charge you for scanning the sensors into the ECU?

 

Thanks for the comments. I had no vibrations or balancing issues. The truck has a more solid ride now, better cornering, more control, mostly due to the better tires. I think the OEM tires were softer rubber and the new tires are more rigid.

I am not sure how much Toyota will charge to scan and enter the new sensors. It is only a (15) minute job, they have to scan each sensor, then manually enter the (7) digit code from each sensor including the spare into the ECU. I would think the minimum charge would be one hour of shop labor, but I will post what I paid after I get it done.

Nice! You get to keep that factory look since they're still toyota wheels. Just much better looking wheels.

 

Took my rig to the local Toyota Dealer service department to get an estimate on the cost of scanning and entering the ID numbers on the new sensors. They were not busy and did the (4) wheels and the spare for $47.00 while i waited. (30 minute shop labor charge)

They even washed my truck and considering I did not buy the truck there, I felt it was a fair price. The annoying yellow sensor light has now disappeared from the dash.

Next mod is a stereo/speaker upgrade!

no, these were after acquired wheels to replace the steel wheels on my 2WD..... i have since bought a 4WD Tacoma access cab

Willtusss, that same size will fit the 2008 Tacoma 2WD Access Cab, nothing has changed....

However, they will not fit a Tacoma 2WD Access Cab Prerunner, because the Prerunner has 6 lug wheel.....

 

I put new 7x17 07 Camry wheels with 235/60r/17 Kumho Road Venture APT tires.Wheels have no sensors but I have not received any TPMS warning on in dash display. Added 1 leaf spring on rear at Long Beach Spring.

 

I agree.........those wheels really change the look! Keep away from the curb when parallel parking. Nice job!

 

Looks good. I have those tires on the wifes Sienna and there are great dry or rain and good in snow and ice (February trip to Indiana).

 

Looks good! I'll have to keep this in mind for when I wear out the stock tires in another 30K miles.

 

How can you not be getting the TPMS light? Are you carrying the old wheels in the bed? How about some more info on the leaf addition. Pic, price etc. I have a shell and could use a little boost.
