Possible solution to avoid wheel spacers.

I'm fixin to order the toytec 3" lift (885)for my truck with 2" aal. Im keeping stock wheels. I was going to run 285/75/16s, and get spidertrax wheel spacers. I just found that bf goodrich makes a mud terrain km2 255/85/16. If I got these would they rub? Also would they look funny because they are skinny?

 

I think the 255 85 would look at little better than the 255 75s. The 75s are close to a 32, the 85s are a little over 33. They are actually a little taller than 285s. Heres a quick comparisson(heres a pic below). If they dont rub because they are taller Im goin to go ahead and get em. Itll be about 200 bucks cheaper and better mpg. Just lookin to see if the 255 85s will rub. I know the width will be ok, but not sure about it being tall

Is anybody runnin these with a 3" lift on stock wheels and not experiencing rub?

 

pretty sure that,because of the backspacing of the stock wheels, you will have alot of rub without spacers and probably losing the mudflaps.

 

I'm running a 3inch OME lift with 285's on stock wheels and no mudflaps and get a fair amount of rubbing. It didn't bother me much at first but after driving it this way for 8k miles or so its gotten old, I'm debating on getting new wheels or running the 255's, next time I get tires. The rubbing isn't "bad" there is no mark on my tire from the rubbing but you can see it on UCA, it only happens at full lock, basically everytime I park.

 

do you have spacers? If 255s dont rub i would get them in a heartbeat. people call them pizza cutters, but i dont think so. If you look at 255millimeters on a ruler versus 285, theres barely a difference. If 255s dont rub look at the pros- no need for wheel spacers (possibly), which would save 200 bucks if you got them all the way around. and the overall cost of the tire is way way cheaper.

 

I don't have spacers on my truck, and like I said the rubbing is only at full lock and not too bad just annoying more than anything. I can't believe that 255's would rub at all with stock rims and no spacers, since the 285's only rub at full lock.

That being said I ran 255's on my old dodge before I bought 285's for it and have to say that the bfg 255's were a bit taller than the bfg 285's, I didn't measure the diffrence but you could see it with the tires sitting next to each other, and the 255's were worn to the treadbars and the 285's were brand new, so I don't know if there would be any clearence issues with the fender due to the increased height of the tire. In all honesty I'd run the 255's they're a bit harder to find but they are cheaper and would let you keep your stock rims. If I don't get a set of rims really cheap before I need new tires I'm gonna run the 255 truxus mud terrains.
