Ok I am the newb here and I need some help. This is my first tacoma and it's a 03 double cab prerunner trd. I am doing a 3 in lift and was wondering what I could fit for wheels and tires. I am not sure about back spacing and how big of a tire I can run. Sorry for this newb question

    Welcome to TW

Your question has too many possible answers. It really depends what size wheel your wanting and what size tire?

A safe size would be 265/75/16 (32" tire) and depending on what your wheel specs are you may not have any rubbing. A 33" tire is also common but there's usually a need for trimming, especially when your suspension is flexing. But again, wheel specs are a big factor when trying to fit large tires.

For example I have 33/10.5/15 km2's and my wheels are 8.5" wide w/ 4" backspace and I have no rubbing while daily driving

I am looking at a 17 for wheels and I would like to do 32's. I guess my main issue was do I need a certain backspace to avoid the rubbing. I appreciate your help.

If you stay with 265/70/17 or 255/80/17 (33's) or skinnier then you shouldn't have any issues rubbing the UCA's. It's when you go with wider tires like 285's then you run the risk of rubbing on the UCA's on stock wheels. As for rubbing on the frame I think a 4" or 4.5" backspace would keep you off the frame with a 32" tire. But the best thing to do is measure the back spacing on your stock wheels and measure how much room you have at full lock. Then do the same on the front of the tire at the pinch weld. After you see how close you are with stock 31" tires then you'll have an idea if it will rub when you bump up to 32's
