    depends on what you want

I find general purpose (highway, offroad, crusty snow, ice) with a priority on pavement use is Michelin LTX AT2. really awesome tires. if you are doing lots of interstate then Michelin LTX MS. both are about the best possible tire when you are on the paved road.

Now if you are going to do offroad a ton, and mark up yer skid plates once in a while, others will recommend something like Duratracs or more offroad-specific. but those michelins will do fine here as well, except the deeper stuff where you might be dragging the bottom through mud or snow...you'd need bigger lugs

You get my vote for most ambigious question asked today :)

As mentioned above, the best tire you can get very much depends on the intended use. The best highway tire in the world will be useless in a mud pit and the best mud tires will hum like crazy on the pavement.

I ran 395/85/R20 Michelin XML's on the Jeep for a few years. They were about $1100.00 each new(I bought them used). I thought they were pretty nice.

They were big, heavy and loved to break stuff. More than a few D60 and D70 HD shafts met their end trying to turn those. The 42" TSL's are much more forgiving, just not as nice on the road.
