Well boys I've finally decided that it's the right time to buy some new shoes and I've chosen the Cooper Discoverer S/T Maxx in 255/80/17.I've got the Pro Comp 7089's in the 17x8 back spacing 4.5 back spacing. I also have a 3" lift so we'll see how it fits next week as I bought them today and it takes 3-5 business days to ship.

Chalked tires best wear is 40 psi all around

The S/T Maxx’s are very quiet which is nuts because the tread is super aggressive and deep. I love the fact that these tires can be studded that’d come in handy if you lived in the mountains. I’ve got plenty of clearance with a 3 inch lift I don’t see rubbing being an issue on or off road. I'm thinking I'll trim more plastic off the back part of the front fenders to gain a little more.

I highly recommend going with discount tire they kick ass. The senior manager gave a killer deal cause I did my research and found that tirecrawler.com was cheaper. I did have to come back the next day cause I had slight balancing issues so the senior manager hooked me up with free gorilla locking wheel lugs each tire has 6 locks $50 value FREE needless to say I'll be going out of my way to rant and rave on a customer survey about the amazing customer service they provide.

I'm interested in how the taller 255s are for towing. I recently put my 800-900lbs outlander max in the truck bed and hauled my camper at the same time. But ended up not making the trip because the rest drive around it felt a.little unsafe with my P rated 285 revolution 2s. Gotta get some air bags too to stiffen up the rear

I had an 09 Outlander (not max). How the hell did you get that in the bed of a Tacoma?

    Bump...

    Thinking of this size,
    Site says they are 32.8"
Anymore reviews OP? If I were buying today these would be my choice. Need a set before winter so looking around 1st of November. Seems like the perfect size and with the tread pattern and siping should be great in snow as well.

Yeah I want to play in some snow and test them out. I still need to do a size check.

I'm considering these also. Currently have Goodyear 265/70/17 all terrain adventure with Kevlar - it's been a good tire at have around 40K on them but want something taller to fill the wheel wells more. Concerned about the added weight...I emailed Cooper and they said the tire weighs 57 lbs. My current is around 41 lbs. How bad has you MPG dropped?

I drive 150 road miles a day...still happy on asphalt? I do utility work driving over curbs and through ditches everyday so an AT tire is needed.

They told me they were 51lbs and everywhere I've looked I find 51.

Here's the email reply from Les Cook at Cooper Tire:

Edward, the 255/75R17 A/T3 the weighs 38# and the LT255/75R17 S/T Maxx weighs 50.4#. The LT255/80R17 S/T Maxx load range E tire weighs more than the LT255/75R17 load range C size. This tire is taller and weighs 57.58#. The metric tire in the A/T3 is not as heavy as an LT rated tires, and is not designed to carry as much load. Thanks, Les

Subject: Discoverer - Tire Specification Question - Weight listed on website

    Dear Sirs-

Looking at a 255/75R17 for my next tire purchase - I can not find any tire weight information listed on your website.

    At the TreadDepot.com site:
The Discoverer AT3 in that size is shown to weigh 38.00lbs
The Discoverer S/T Maxx is shown to weigh 53.00 lbs

Can you confirm those values are correct?

At TreadDepot - For the larger 255/80R17 in the Discoverer S/T Maxx - it is shown at 51.00 lbs - lighter that the smaller tire above which is what prompted my question

    Thanks,

    Edward
