The arrangement and size of the center section is slightly different too. Minor differences in tread pattern and compound can have huge effects on traction. For the better or for the worse.

I've run the KOs & the Duratracs back to back and the only thing the Duratracs had on the KOs was on slick/icy roads (KOs were better in snow). But it's all a trade off. The Duratracs don't last as long and make more noise.

I think that's lost on a lot of people here. Everything with tires is a trade off. A racing slick is a good tire. But wait, you need traction when it rains so we add some grooves. Well, we want traction in mud too so now we need to add some more grooves at different angles. All these grooves have taken away from the street traction of the tire. The list is simple and could go on and on.

Pirelli Scorpion ATR tires are one of my least favorite tire. They are terrible off-road. BUT, they perform really well on the high way. If most of your time with your AT tires is spent on the highway, these might not be a bad choice for you.

The BFG KOs in my opinion still offer the best all around traction for an "AT" tire. If they can keep the traction that they had in all of the other areas and give a little better traction on icy roads, I think they will still be king of the AT tire.

I wonder if the price of the original KO's will drop with these on the market now?

Sucks that BFG apparently isn't making these in the Tacoma standard aize 265/70r16. Don't have a lift and don't want one.

What does "KO2" stand for? I have been running BFG All Terrains since day 1, but not sure what a KO is.

First month of ownership... This month I'm removing front air dam, and also Rhino lining the bed.
Her eis the basic details I gleaned from reading the BFG website PR materials:

BFG claims the KO2 has several improvements over the "old" KO design: A 20% tougher sidewall (but that is based on a new test they developed that favors their new design), and two times the tread life in gravel and can last 15 percent longer in road use. It also claims 10 and 19 percent better traction in mud and snow. It was integrated tread-block sipes that provide additional gripping edges.

The original all terrains came out in the 80's i believe (according to this link, 76' http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/bfg-...1-14_This_Day_In_History_1976&navigation=next ). the "KO" came out in the late 90's / early 00's. The KO2 is now out in late 14'.
I think they are changing the name so you can differentiate the tires.

Went for a bit of a trip and forgot about this thread.

265/75/16 fits fine without a lift, no rub in over a month, including several 4x4 trips, a couple of crossed up situations, pulling a Chevy pickup 3/4Km up a snowy ditch to get him out, and a trip to the Yukon that included a bit of off roading.

An excellent BFG, a good off road tire, a good on road tire, and an excellent snow tire.

Got a set in 265/75/16 last weekend and I also installed spidertrax 1.25" spacers.. However I had to remove the front flap and the mudflaps were already removed prior to install. My initial impression of the tires is that they are much more firm than the rugged trails based on the stiffer ride and improved cornering feel. The truck doesn't feel like it's rolling over the sidewalls or floating on a soft cushy cloud quite so much anymore. It's been really wet here in Northern California and they have been great in the rain so far, standing water is barely a twitch in the wheel and no "vibes" whatsover. Other than that my Tacoma is stock. I was planning on doing a strut spacer lift but I think I may be able to live without it. Also debating some black wheels, I'm thinking 16x8 spares might look pretty neat.[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]
