I have a '13 V6 SR5 taco. I changed the oil about 3 weeks ago. Due to my crazy work schedule I can only do a little at a time on my vehicle, so I held off on rotating the tires and changing the air filter. After finally getting some time in my schedule to do the work, I get everything set to rotate the tires.

On the front drivers side I start to crack the all the lug nuts. When I get to the last one the lug wrench won't secure properly on the last bolt. I'm using a 4 way wrench, so I put it down and go the factory jack kit and pull out that lug wrench. It's a no go.

I look at dimensions on the 4 way lug wrench and it says 22mm. So I go to my socket set and grab a 21mm socket. It doesn't fit. So the 22mm is too big and the 21mm is too small.

What am I not doing right here?

Also, my 25k complementary service at the dealer expired in October. On all their paperwork it says they rotated the tires. How did they manage to get the tire off and I can't? Unless they just BS'd me.

Any help would sure be appreciated.

I did a search and this came up....did you ever come up with a solution? My front drivers side has the same issue....21mm is too small and 22mm is too big. Thought at first that it was rounded so I started to file it down a bit but it's definitely not the same size at all. Gave up....just going to get an extractor I think.

Interesting. Be sure that you get them all the same. Would suck to be on the side of the road with a flat you can't change because one lug nut is different.

Are these on the factory steel wheels with the horrible plastic center cap?

They seem prone to getting buggered up, possibly the dealer messed up one nut while doing the rotation...?

I had this issue when I first tried to rotate the tires on my work Tacoma. The problem is that the plastic center cap sometimes sits every so slightly off center from the bolt holes that when you try to put the impact socket on it it will bind up, making it seem like the socket is too small. Get it lined up and give it a good push, it will slip on.

Just to clarify, the 21mm is the size of the socket you need. A deep impact socket is preferable, but can also cause the binding issue I mentioned due to the thicker socket wall. A standard 21mm (non-impact) will likely fit better due to the thinner wall. Just don't use it with an impact gun.
