Hey guys, i need help selecting a tire through everyone's experience with the Tacoma. Im looking for an all season tire, which is good in snow (yeah, you haven't heard that before) I dont want dedicated snows. I plan on selling my rugged trails with 2000 miles on craigs.

An on/off road tire would be ok if it doesn't hurt gas mileage. My biggest thing is traveling down my driveway, which is steep and i have to do that many times throughout the winter when its snowcovered. My location is often hilly snow covered roads. i dont do any rock crawling or heavy off road.

I want to stick with the stock size 265-70-16 and have narrowed to a few tires. If anyone has experience with them, please chime in.

Mich LTX MS2 _ i have had these on my old xterra and i do like them
    Mich LTX AT2
    Dueler AT Revo 2
    Gen Grabber At2
    Firestone Dest AT2

    Thoughts?

Dedicated snow tires start working at 7 degrees and colder .
I dont believe any of the all season tires you have listed will function well at 7 degrees .
If i were purchasing a mud and snow , i would be looking at what temp the manufacturer indicates the tire performs best during your winter months .
Are you running any weight over the rear axle ?

(Re: weight in the back) I plan on it now. Ive only had one snow in the taco, but it def seemed light in the rear.

I really dont want to do dedicated snow if i can help it. If nobody gave me advice, id probably just go with the ltx ms2's as they were decent in snow while awesome year round. But, im looking for others experience with all seasons or on/off road.

I currently have GY ArmorTrac 265-70-16 on my Tacoma. I have 53,000 miles on them and they are ready to replace. Very good on the snow but got stuck twice and needed a tow when got stuck in a foot of snow over solid ice. Fair in mud and good highway and wet. I'm also vacillating between the LTX MS 2 and the Grabber AT2. But I'm leaning toward the Grabber for the Snow flake rating and the terrific rim guard.

I've had 2 sets of Dueler Revos'...on my 96 and currently on my 07. Also had a set on my husbands Grand Cherokee. We really like them and keep going back to them. I can't complain.

For me...I've only ever gotten about 5 years out of them. Granted, they never failed inspection so I could've gotten away with at least another year or so. But....when the tread gets that thin, they just aren't as good in winter (that's to be expected).

the more i think about it, the more i think a dedicated snow would save me money in the long run, or just break even. explanation: i've replaced many tires before winter with at least a summer or more worth of tread left. I always make sure i have good tread depth heading into snow season. Im getting rid of many usable miles. If i do that, then the ltx ms2's would prob be my choice and some winter tire along with that

Buy a cheap set of steal wheels to mount the winter tires on....

Keep original tires/wheels for summer usage.
