Biggest tire on stock taco??

what is the biggst size i can run on a stock 95.5 taco? i have 31x10.5-15 but i want to go 33x12.5-15. will it work or rub a lil bit?

From what I read, a 33X12.50, or even a 33X10.50 will rub the frame up front at full turn. I don't know about the body clearance, but it looks to me like the body would clear. I am considering the same thing, so I have been looking at the 2.5-3" suspension lift kits. I have read and been told that they will clear 33s. The problem with the lift, from what I gather, is that 3" lift up front is the absolute maximum without lowering the front dif, which ups the expense a lot. The limiting factor is the CV joint angle of the front axles. The lift causes excess wear, particularly if you have auto hubs, which are locked full-time. You can get away with it with the manual hubs, since you will only lock them in when needed, reducing the time factor on the wear.

I look forward to reading opinions from some who are actually running 33s. TacoZilla has some good info on lift kits. Seems he has tried about all of them.

Keep in mind you'll also have to consider suspension movement. If it just rubs when you turn, imagine what happens when you hit bumps.

Some of the spacer/AAL kits offer diff. drops either included or at a minimal extra cost.

thernie you can lower your front diff for $18 ez-lift on ebay had the kits...come with bolts washers everything.... 33x10.50 might not rub alot but they will rub I had 32x11.50 bfg's on astock taco with no problems.....another thing is the way the toyota wheels are made the tires may rub the upper ball joint if you go too wide on a stock rim $8 1/4" spacers will fix that

Yes. Just put 285/75/16 BFG AT on stock rims (2007 SR5) with 3" lift, and get a little rubbing. I believe the backset on those rims is 5.5", or so I hear. Rubbing is at full turn and worse in reverse. Installer tells me minimal spacers will solve that problem. Hope that helps.

I think, but could be mistaken, that the 285's are an 11.5" tire. What I want is a 265/75/16.

I plan on a 3" lift, keeping stock 16'" rims, and adding 33x10.5 tires (or the nearest metric equivalent). I'll probably be getting the lift soon, but the tires will have to wait til spring. I just want to make sure I have everything I need for everything to work. I don't want rubbing....that's unacceptable to me.

From what I have read, you should have no problem with the 265's and stock wheels. I haven't heard anyone say that was a problem. Everyone seems to want to go to 33's though, and that's what I opted for. 285's are considered 33" tires and 265's are 32's. So seems like if you're at 265's you're not going to need spacers on stock wheels. If you go to 285, you would. That seems to be the answer. I'm going in for spacers at the 700 mile checkup (for the lift kit) and I'll let you know if that eliminates rubbing. Even then, I think if you're into hardcore 4x4ng, with need of severe articulation, etc., I think you'd want to stick with 265's from what I've read. I'm kind of new to this too, but have spent a lot of time reading and this seems to be the concensus. Good luck.

so 33x12.5 on a stock 15 inch rim will rub slightly. and a set of cheaap spacers would correct that? tacozilla said he had 32x11.5 without a prob on a stock taco so i dont think an inch bigger both ways would rub severly. but stock gears might be taxed?

My stock gears are good: 4.30:1, 8" diffs. As a matter of fact, that's one reason I'm interested in 33s, or maybe I'll look at 285 metrics with a more road friendly tread (not much off-road stuff available here in PA anyway). I'm riding along at about 3000 rpm at 73 mph. About 2500 at 62. I'd like to get that down a bit. Wishing I had a 6th gear, or that my fifth was really an overdive at about .70 or something.

Since all my driving right now is on the road, I'm not concerned about a little rubbing at full-lock turning, or during full articulation. I just want to be sure I can drive normally without body or tire damage. Maybe I'll go ahead and get some "All-Terrain" 285 metrics, for a little better ride, and see how it goes. If it rubs too much, I'll get the lifts or try spacers.

the inch wider is what gets you..lifting wont help how far the wheels set in on the stock truck... another option I have heard of it a set of stock 00-02 tundra 16" steel wheels... they have less back spacing than the tacoma ones and are cheaper too

i had to put spacers on after my lift the rubbed the ball joint after the spacers i had to do the pinch weld mod

+1 on that.

Seems like a lot of guys want to run the biggest tires possible with the least possible amount of lift, even if it rubs when they turn into their driveway. IMO with a 3" lift you shouldn't run anything bigger than 32x11.5" or 265x75's which you could run with no lift.

If you want 33's and plan on every taking the truck off road or even pulling into your driveway and don't want to rub, do a 6" lift.

I can't understand why some just do the minimum lifts so they don't rub while turning in a parking lot at 3MPH. If they do it because they don't take it offroad, then why buy a 4x4 with 33's in the first place? Just makes no sense to me. It's like putting 28" chrome on a Hummer.

When I get my taco in 12 months, I'm going with a 3" lift front and 1.5" rear with 32x11.5x16's. I would go with 33's and a 6" Fabtech lift initially but it would totally void the factory warranty, so I'm just going to run smaller tires and a mild lift till those tires wear out.

There are other considerations besides clearance and looks, Chad. With 4:30 diffs, I'm looking for a 6th gear on the highway with 31" tires, and my speedo reads about 3mph too fast at 65. I figure 33s might correct my speedo and lower my highway rpm to a better level, possibly improving my mpg if I go with a reasonable tread. Right now I'm running about 2600 rpm at 65. Makes it loud and gives poor mpg. I'd like to see the rpm drop to about 2200.

32s is what the truck comes with stock why put on a lift and not bigger tires i run 33s with no rubbing on or off road
