I am in need of a new set of tires. I have seen countless threads about increasing tire size but very few about smaller and/or narrower tires.

I have a 2012 Tacoma Sport. While I would really like to have a more aggressive tire, I do NOT 'off road', spend over 95% of my time on the highway or paved road, although I will occasionally take the truck off road when camping or other light recreational use. I do get some snow and need a functional tire for that.

The stock size tire is 265/65R17. I would not might something slightly taller but I have no intention of adding a lift to the truck. What are the benefits to going with a 245/XXR17 tire? I believe that is a slightly narrower tire, correct? Would that alter my gas mileage and/or change the handling characteristics?

I like the BFG A/T KO's but there seem to be negative aspects of that tire considering my use/needs. I am also looking at the Bridgestone Revo 2's, BFG Rugged Terrain, Toyo AT2's, Goodyear Silent Armor and possibly Hankook ATM's. I appreciate the feedback
