Could you guys point me in the right direction for my next set of tires? I'm going with an AT tire at this point. I'd like to go up in size from stock tires.

    Truck Use: 80% highway/city driving, 20% offroad

    Notes:

    1. I'd like to keep the front mud flaps but increase from 245/x-16 tires that came on truck.

    2. Any idea if I can go 265/75-16 and not rub front mud flaps?

    3. Am I stuck at 265/70-16 if I want to keep front flaps with no rubbing?

    4. Which option would you guys choose from this short list?

    Cooper Discoverer AT3

AT3 is pretty highly regarded here, I think. I went with Hankook Dynapro ATMs and have been happy, worth a look if you haven't ruled them out already. You should be able to run any 265/75/16 AT without rubbing on the flaps, so no worries. Maybe an aggressive MT would rub, but you're not shopping for those. I have 265/75/16s and have no issues.

Either cooper or goodyear. What kind of truck do you have? You should be able to fit 265s unless it's a 5 lug tacoma

I have decided to go with the Cooper AT3's on my next tire purchase. They are pretty light compared to the others which is one of the features that attracts me to buy them.

I find it interesting that the Cooper tires are well regarded here. Not saying they don't perform well in this application.

I'm sure with all the rave reviews from folks with several sets of different brands they must be great.

In street car tires I've found them to be ok touring type tires. Great for the sedately driven appliance crowd.

In the 'performance' tire line, they stink. I could not get a brand new set off my little toy fast enough.

    Just an observation of interest...........

    Carry on.

You also have the front leveled with Bilstein 5100's as well. Correct?

I'm lifted 1.5" up front, but I had these 265/75/16s installed while I was completely stock height/stock suspension without issue. Plenty of clearance between the tire and the front flap.

I sure do see a lot of positive feedback regarding that AT3 around this forum - you're right. Funny you mentoin the Hankook tire, because I had it on my list but forgot to add it to the thread :D.

You're pretty confident that my stock SR5 can clear the 265/75-16s?
    I'm not leveld with 5100's...yet ;).

Thanks for the recommendation - I'll add these to my potential purchase list.

There is a mentality that exists around these parts that goes something like this..."if you're worried about tire weight and mpg, buy a prius." I'd have to disagree for my own reasons, because as a husband and soon-to-be-possibly father of an adopted child(ren)....I'm  with saving some tire weight and $$$ at the pump :)! (Especially since I've put 40,000 on my truck since it was new in February of '09).

Yes I know what you're saying. When discussing tire purchases in my past, the word "Coopers" was always used in conjunction with cheap junky tires. Even so, it's tough to ignore all the great reviews their AT tires have been given lately, right?

I cleared 265/75/16 just fine with stock suspension, and it's well publicized here on the forum that the largest tire you can fit without mods on any 6 lug is 265/75/16.

I love my Dynapro's and would recommend them!

I ran on 265/70/17 ( same size as 265/75/16 ) Hankook MT's no problem at stock height for over a year

Thought I would further confuse you. These Kelly Safari TSR are made by Goodyear but cheaper than the Duratracs. They are proven tires, relatively quiet and seem to go almost anywhere. I really like mine!

Thanks :). I realize it's well documented that 265/75-16 works fine @ stock suspension height, but didn't know about mud flaps being able to remain on or needing to be removed.

I run 265-75R-16 General Grabber AT2's on my truck @ stock height.. No clearance issues. If I was going to be 80% hwy, Id go with either of the Michelins. My All Terrains can be noisy at speed, but Im on gravel/dirt about 50% of the time, so its not too bad for me. Mine are also load range E, which I would not recomend for the hwy in our light trucks.

Thanks for the vote! I'm taking noise level into consideration also due to my largely weighted % of highway driving.

No issues at all! I didn't take clearance pics, but there was plenty. Reason I went with Hankook is the 50k mile warranty (I do 10-20k per year), I got them at Discount Tire while they were running a $50 rebate promotion on a full set and I think I paid $510 for four. Little bit of noise, but only noticeable in a quiet cab (no radio, no conversation, etc,.), they handled the slick roads here last year when we actually had a ton of rain, and standing water on the freeway was no problem either thankfully. I'm really pleased with them.

Had a balancing issue that seems to have been a defective tire, but it was replaced under manufacturer warranty (2 tires were actually replaced), other than that which is possible with any tire, I'm really happy with them. I researched tires for a year and ended up with these, glad I did it.
