Nokia Hakkas are the best winter tire I have ever used. 2nd, used the Toyo Open Country HTs and they are a superior all year tire. This winter past got some Hankook RW11s and they are decent and brake very well on ice. I will use what's left of the Toyos this summer and pickup another set next year. Nokia Hakkas hands down but expect some road noise....

Firestone Studded Winterforces on their own set of steel wheels.

I'm a swingshift RN and Kathy and I do eldercare.
I have to be able to get on the road regardless of conditions.
I was on the road ahead of the plows several times this year.
At 3am, I don't want to be stuck.
Busted numerous drifts, rode on solid ice.

You lose some braking and handling on dry roads, but in bad winter weather, nothing superior imho.

I put them on when they first call for snow, take them off around end of March.
Wash the tires/rims and wipe it all down in tire preservative, then bag them in black plastic bags and keep in cool dark garage.

I've gotten 5+yrs out of my last set and they still looked great when I sold the van I had them for.

This guy knows. I have lived in snow for fifty plus years. Snow tires for snow. It's a no brainier. I have put fresh blizzaks on dedicated winter rims for: Camaro SS, Miata mx-5, and my current Taco has 245/65 r16's on the stock steelies. Has anyone here run a 2011 Camaro SS through a lake effect zone winter? I have. Over four hundred horsepower going to rear-wheel drive for power slide action just can't be beat...........

the tires you have a supposedly great in the snow, if they aren't cutting it, go with some pizza cutting dedicated snow tires

I have big o arctic claw xsi's with studs. Super grippy on the icy stuff and they shed snow well in the deeper stuff. I've been running them for 3 winters now and I don't really ever break traction unless I'm trying to. They are super predictable.

I run Dean Wintercat SST tires on a dedicated wheel. Most true snow tires will be good. AT and MT tires are snow "rated" but not snow tires. I used to live around Akron, so I know you can't run studs but good snow tires make all the difference in the world.
