Wheel Decoration Removal

Hello All,

I am getting ready to rotate the tires on my '09 for the first time. I have the oem steel wheels. The owners manual shows removing the centerpiece / wheel decoration when changing a flat. I checked and my impact socket fits in the holes where the lugnuts are.

Is there any reason I would need to pry off the centerpiece first?

Yeah...Take it off...

 

the socket will fit in thru the centercap, but the washers on the otherside of the centercap...on the lugnuts wont fit thru, so the center cap needs to be removed.....and it makes putting the lugnuts back on tons easier too.

Also, those center caps will fall right off once you get the wheels off of the truck. They attach more to the hub than the wheel itself.
