285/70-17's vs. 305/65-17's ... rubbing and trimming ...

2007 Tacoma TRD Access Cab 4x4 ... with a 3" suspension lift.

Have ordered Pro Comp 6001 17" x 9" wheels that have a -6.6 offset ... according to the tire calculators the tire/wheel package will stick out 2.2" or 2.4" further than stock (285 vs. 305).

My delema is which tire size to go with ... 285/70 or 305/65 ...

As far as I know the 285's will work just fine with minimal or no trimming/rubbing but I have heard that if one goes with the 305/65's there are a lot of rubbing issues and lots of trimming to do ... is that true?

Remember, I have a 3" suspension lift, maybe that makes a difference.

I want to go with the 305/65's but don't want a bunch of trimming or rubbing.

305's are gonna be too big.
285 is the biggest you'll wanna go with a 3" lift

im running 285-65s and I have rubbing on the frame when I go over dips and shit when turning

 

I wouldn't recommend the 305's and I can tell you that even the 285's can rub the plastic wheel well liners depending on the offset. I also have a 3" lift and with full lock turn and suspension compression could cause rubbing without minor trimming.

 

Do not do it unless u have at least 4" of lift. You will have serious rubbing issues
