bigger replacement tires for my stock 06 tacoma

I hate to ask this question since I have read so many posts about tires for a stock Tacoma but I will make mine a little more specific.
I have an 06 Tacoma double cab, TRD 4x4, all stock. Original tires were 265/70/16. I read the biggest tire you can switch to without rubbing is 265/75/16 and that is what I would like to do. I cant really afford BFG all terrains so I was going with General Grabber AT2's. I wanted to make sure these will fit without rubbing as I read in one of the posts that different tires with aggressive tread patterns may rub even if they are the same size. Can anyone tell me if they are using these tires in this size. Thanks.

 

I'm not personally but I'm sure there are a few on these boards that are running those tires stock with no problem.

265/75/16 you should be safe regardless of what you get.

Ok last question before I buy this Friday.
When I explained to the tire dealer I wanted to bump up a size from my stock 265/70/16's to 265/75/16's and picked the General grabber at2's, he told me the stock tire is a 4 ply standard load compatable with my truck. the 75's are a 10 ply light truck tire and a 1/2" skinnier than the 70's which he told me would ride rough like a truck and sound loud. He really tried to discourage me from getting these tires. Is he right? Wouldnt a 10 ply be better? Will there be that much of a difference. Sound doesnt bother me as much as the ride.

 

He's generally right and I say generally because I haven't run those tires before. That tire is probably about 10 lbs heavier too which is all rolling weight and specced for mostly 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. Not necessary for Toyota trucks.

I live in rural Northern Nevada. I will not run anything less than an 8 ply rating on anything. Even a little Suzuki Samurai. Out here, in the Wild West, more plies will give you rock cut and puncture resistance. Otherwise, one will need to drive the local dirt roads excruciatingly slow. So the answer to plies needed for you truck is a function of where you live, and how/where you drive.
