What kind of paint for wheels?

Those of you that have painted their wheels black what paint/primer etc. did you use and how long have the wheels been painted? also how are they holding up and what do you put them through (hardcore offroading, trails, streets, etc.). just trying figure out what paint and primer i should use..thanks in advance

Been posted in more than a few black wheel threads....

I used Duplicolor Sandable Black primer and Duplicolor Satin Black rattle cans. JUST touched them up today after about 12-13 months of regular on street use and moderate off roading.

Had mainly trail pinstripes and a few places on the lip of the rim with paint chips-and I'll attribute all of those to wheeling.

ive looked through some threads and can find a few, but i just want to get all the info together in here..

sounds like yours are holding out pretty good..how bad was the chipping?

Very minor- and as opposed to chips it was more like longer, deep scrapes.

Not more than 1/8 of an inch into the face of the rim right at the lip where tire meets rim. They were easily repaired with a few shots from a rattle can.

I primed mine 1st with Rustoleum Auto Primer, then put on a couple coats of Rustoleum Wheel Paint...Turned out fine!

no primer

rustoleum hammered black (not rattle can)

i used a air gun to spray mine...did 2 coats



the paint held up to anything i could put my truck thru...no issues whatsoever...no chipping bubbling anything...
