Tool to tighten lug nuts on Moto Metals

What socket is used to tighten lug nuts on wheels where the lugnut top is flush with the edge of the wheel?
I have Moto Metal 957's and they were installed with new lug nuts from an offroad shop, I was getting them rotated for free there until that location moved far away from me. My boyfriend took my truck to his work at a dealership to do my oil change and rotation, he says he has to use a thin walled spark plug socket to tighten my lug nuts due to the clearance between the wheel and the lug nut he says due to this he can not check the torque. He also says that the lug nut wrench in my truck will not work, so if I get a flat I can't change the tire .

What tools do I need to be able to remove the lug nuts and what should I put in my truck in case of a flat?

Sorry, I wasn't asking the size of the socket...the sockets are too thick to fit around the lug nut which are 'inside' the wheel that is why he used a 'thin walled spark plug socket' which is not the ideal tool.

 

Check with the wheel dealer you got'em from. They should be able to hook you up with the correct tool.

 

Hi FSC, Tire Rack sells a Gorilla Wrench and thin walled sockets. I like the gorilla wrench because it expands giving me more leverage if I have to take off a tire myself. It has worked great for me. I actually keep one in the tacoma and the honda.


Also Wally World world sells a knock off the wrench and my second one I bought on Amazon fwiw.

Yeah I was going to, but they closed the location near me and I don't trust that they can give me good info on the phone. If I can't figure it out then I'll drive out to them sometime.

I haven't tried it myself, he's the mechanic so I took his word. I'll take a look at it today. My wheel lock tool fits, so I'll compare it to the wrench and sockets.

 

Yeah I told him I can't remove them myself anyway . I'll check out the Gorilla Wrench and look for some thin walled sockets, I'll take the wheel lock and spark plug socket to compare.

Funny you post a thread about this. I'm basically in the same situation. I was told to get a good deep 13/16 socket and use a belt sander to grind down the socket so it fits in the lug nut holes on my moto metals.

I'd prefer the gorilla wrench though, can anyone confirm the 21mm socket it comes with will work with the moto metals???

 

a half inch drive deep well,thin wall socket from sears(craftsman) and a half inch breaker bar should take care of you.
