3,000k trip- Rubbing issue

Today I got lifted 3" and bought some NTG's 285/70/17 on my stock 17" Sport wheels. The guy installing them assured me that they would not rub at all, but they do rub some, and he said it was on the UCA's.

I am going from Jacksonville, FL to Des Moines, IA to pick up a small car and haul it back starting this Monday, and am concerned that I am going to screw up these tires. I'm not sure that any local shop sells Spidertrax, and the closest place I could pick them up on my way to Iowa is outside of Birmingham, AL.

What should I do?

 

Would going down to a 265/70/17 make a difference? I don't know much about tire sizes...

 

I agree with hodge- run the stock tires for the trip, then get it sorted out afterward. If thats not an option.... then idk. Maybe a pic of the issue would help. Does it rub all the time, or just when turning? pics would help out.

go get 1/4" spacer for the front from auto zone. I ran mine, 285's stock wheels and 1/4" spacers, for about 15,000 miles, with no problems. the 1/4" wont fix all the uca rubbing but It will give you some comfort room between the sidewall and uca

 

Alright, I had the 1/4" spacers put on today and it helped with rubbing, but now my steering wheel starts shaking when I hit 45 MPH. Any ideas?

 

unfortunately that is probably a side effect of the 1/4" spacers. There is no way to center the spacers since they just slide onto the lugs. In turn there is a chance that they throw the balance out a little.

 

Thanks for all the help... I have decided to run the stocks until I get back with the Spidertrax.
