Need tire/rim help for lifted 06

Hey this is my first post on this forum although i have been on here reading up for awhile now. First question, I have a 2006 tacoma and last month i installed toytecs 3 in lift. Now im stuck on what to do with wheels and tires. I have the stock 16 inch 6 lugs on there now and would like to keep them but i have got to get rid of those 245's. I would like to go with 33's. From what i've read, I believe i can fit 255/85r16 on the stock rims without spacers and without them rubbing the UCA's. If i were to run 285's and go with a different rim, what Backspacing would i need. Basically i need to know what i need to fit 33's whether it be 255's or 285's. Thanks

 

if you get new wheels you would want a 4.5 bs and then you can run 285's, do you have the 4cyl or 6, i think you can run 285's with the stock wheels wiith that lift.

 

I have the 6 cylinder. Do you think I'll be fine to go with 285s without much rubbing? I don't mind trimming either haha.

 

trimming should be minor, the plastic around the bottom of the fender, pm chris4x4 to be sure, he knows all.

 

I disagree with just stating that 4.5" BS is what you want.... theres more to it. What is more important is to have is a 0 offset spec on the wheels you buy. I have 17x9's w/5" BS and 0 offset. If you go with a wheel thats 9" wide and get a 4.5" BS then you will end up with a -12mm offset which will stick your tires out a bit too far IMO. However if you were to buy a wheel thats 8" wide with a 4.5" BS, then you'd end up with that 0 offset. A negative offset spec will increase the problem of rubbing 285's on the body mount and mudflap/fender flares as well.

 

So does that mean the stock rims are out of the picture now if I want to run 285s? Also, would I have to run 285/70s or 285/75s?

 

Ive heard that with the factory 16's that you can run a 285/75/16's with a set of wheel spacers. Most seem to run the spidertrax spacers as they're hub centric and keep the rotation of the tire/wheel true and smooth.

 

Would that mean only spacer in the front? Or all around. I'm looking for the least expensive way of doing this but don't want it to be crappy.

If you want your wheels to have an even look to them, you'll want to put them on all four corners... otherwise the fronts will stick out more then the backs. They aren't "needed" in the rear, but for aesthetics you may want to consider adding them to the rear too.
