TPMS sensors

    Does anyone know if 06 Tacoma TPMS sensors will work with 09 Tacoma system? Both are steel wheels. 09 has 2007 17" FJ Cruiser steels; will TPMS sensors have to be re-programmed to use 16" factory TPMS from 06 16" wheels on 07 17" wheels, to allow for different p.s.i.? Thanks for any help.

    Yes, switching TPMS sensors will require reprogramming. Each sensor contains it's own ID which has to be programmed into the TPMS ECU. Wheel size doesn't matter.

    To be honest, I don't have a definitive answer. The only difference that I know of in the systems is that starting in 09, they no longer have a sensor in the spare. But I believe that may be a simple program setting in the TPMS ECU.

    Is there a reason you want to switch from 09 to 06?

    Yes, I have access to a set of 06 wheels with sensors cheap. Was hoping to have a set in my 17" wheels, use my stock 16"s which are still new for winter use Hate that blinking yellow TPMS light!

    Yeah, everytime you switch the tires around the TPMS would need reprogrammed. There is an alternate way but you would have to remove your current sensors and place them inside a pressurized vessel. The is a member who has a set inside a wheelbarrow tire mounted to the rear frame rail behind his bumper.

    I have two sets of wheels/tires for winter & summer.
    One set has the sensors that came with the truck. The other set (my summer set) does not.
    I do not get the blinking light unless I travel a certain distance out of range of my stored stock sensors. Once the light starts blinking, I put a tacoma world business card on the speedo until I get home and overnight the sytem resets.
    This has happened over the last 5 yrs on two trucks doing it this way. (A 06 Tundra & now my 06 Tacoma fwiw).
