Spare Tire

Another post about the spare tire not having a matching rim got me to thinking. My truck is all stock, but I'm moving up to a 265/70/17 soon, and was wondering if I should get a fifth for the spare? Will it fit back in the same spot that my spare is in now? I don't care about the matching rim, but I do care that if I get a flat I'll be running on a tire that's 1 inch shorter than the rest.

 

you should be fine using your stock tire as a spare, for temporary purposes though. i wouldnt go driving around on it for a few days but use it till you can get a new tire asap.

 

I agree. Spare tires are only designed to get you from the spot of the flat to the tire store. Even if you had to drive on it a couple days till a new tire was in stock or something, you should be ok driving on it. Just stay off the highway and keep the cruising to a minimum. Worst case, ask the tire shop if the larger size would fit in your spare location. Good luck.

 

A 265/70/17 will fit under the bed in the stock location.

 

I bought the 5th tire. I don't have practical experience either way but I'm told you shouldn't run different size tires with these rear ends. It fits under the bed just fine.
