sorry for mixing up all these coded , different ways of writing , i guess i was meaning spacer lifts, i am new to all this as one can tell, being an artist i am coming from a visual first point of view. so to back track , my man put a 3 inch leveling kit up front and aroadmaster active suspension on the rear, still when i put my sleeping rig in the back i still sit low in the back. now he wants to add aa 1 inch spacer lift in the rear? help

    1" block in rear?

I wouldn't recommend that. Blocks promote axle wrap. An add-a-leaf- would be a better option.

And I've never heard of this "roadmaster active suspension" before. I had to google it. What are you trying accomplish with that thing?

I recently put 265/70 17 on my truck with stock suspension my wheels are 17x8 Pro Comp Series 52 Rock crawlers, because of my wheel choice I needed to go with 1.25" spacers, went with Spidertrax all around. I needed to do quite a bit of trimming and will be installing 5100s at 1.75 in the front to avoid any cab mount rub, I might go .85 to avoid being nose high, but am leaning towards 1.75. The truck is in the shop after an accident so I won't have the shocks installed for a few weeks. Will have to trim my fenders again too as they are getting replaced but I am having the body shop do that.

By the way my wheels have a 4.5" backspace.

man thanks for your rather directness to that thing i had put on the rear end, to answer your question, i have no earthly idea , the guy said it keeps the rear level when i put my bed platform in the back, now he wants to add the block, think i am getting taken around the block cause of my ingnorance of all this tech stuff. guess i have to take it to a pro shop that does nothing but custom trucks and cars. i will get there its just going to take a few unwanted steps. what about the add a leaf?

My advise would be to do the following:

    1. Remove the spacer lift up front, remove the active suspuension deal from the back (return truck to stock)
    2. Buy this: http://downsouthmotorsports.com/i-1...acoma-pre-runner-4wd-pre-load-adjustable.html
    3. Buy this: 4. Look in your local regional forum for any upcoming mod days, or post a thread asking if anyone could help you out with the install (for some beer of course).

Lots of members on here will help folks install lifts just for the pure enjoyment of it.

Then end result of this plan is a good quality lift for $400 installed, with no potential for damage to your suspension.

I realize this thread is old, but here is a pic of my old '07 Sport with 265/70-17 MTZ's on it, and no lift aside from the TSB leafs.

Hi to all, New here. Great Site! I got all my questions answered already. Bilsteins Frt; set @ 0.85, Add a leaf for the rear,265/75-16's on stock alum. rims should burn thru my spare change quick enough...I'm gonna go with taller/skinny to help with winter traction... One question; do these trucks have a locking diff. or limited slip? and ; anyone use these in New England winters? Now, I've had alot of 2wd trucks, so I'm not expecting miracles here, just your 2 cents. I will sandbag/load the bed w/ approx 300lbs +or-. Thanks for a great site and Keith's info on the tire/lift deal. Oh yeah, 2010 Pre-runner, Tires next week or so will be Wild Peak AT's on the stock alloys. I have a Company Truck, so I won't put too many miles on my new 'Toy' yearly, maybe 5,000 at most. Thanks Again; John.

The TRD offroads have an e-locker,and the TRD sports have limited slip. The non TRD trucks have a open diff.

So i just got my 2009 Tacoma base regular cab and all i know is the 15" rims... they are the stock tires. im not very good at all this sizing stuff. i want to make it a few inches taller without installing a lift or larger rims. i just wanna know the best size tire to buy that will bring it up 3-4 inches without losing a lot of power or mpg's.

Tires that would make the truck 3-4 inches taller would be 6-8 inches taller than your current tires I don't know what you have on now but I can tell you for sure there is no chance you are going to fit that much more tire without a huge lift even if your current tires are only 29" that would still be a 35-37 inch tire you'd need at least a 6" lift and a shit load of trimming. I have 33s on mine with a 3" lift and I still get a little bit of rub on large bumps when turning. You are also almost certainly going to lose mpg moving to bigger tires. I do believe you can run a 265/75/16?? On a stock height truck not too sure I'm sure someone who knows more will respond.

Since you are a 5-lug, you can only go up to 235/75/15 without a lift, which is a 29.

There is no 6" lift available for 5-lugs. If you get a 3" lift then i THINK you could have a chance at fitting 265/75/16. But that would of course lead to a power decrease and loss of mpg's.

    Welcome to TW!

There is nothing different about the 2012 as far as tire fitment. You can still fit a 265/70-17 (or 18 if you have the upgrade package).

To Sabre01...I had a 2wd taco last winter in NE...spent a lot of time in Vermont...skidded out on dirt mountain roads but the limited slip really worked well to control the skid...but i couldnt get up my friends driveway with 4 inches plus snow on it...had stock tires...so 2wd performance wasn't all that bad...however that being said I have purchased a 4wd this year...gettin better snow tires put on today...headed to NE in a couple weeks
