got a flat, and look what caused it...PIC!

So I was out hunting the other day and I noticed my low tire pressure indicator light come on. I pulled off and noticed my rear drivers side tire was a bit low. I thought about just going on as it was just barely noticeable but a decided since I would have to travel on some highway to get home, and last time my indicator light came on with a slightly low tire, it went completely flat an hour or so later. So I changed it despite the mud and rain. Well good thing, here is what the tire shop found....



Thats a 10 inch long, quarter inch thick SPIKE!!!! I have no idea how and where I picked it up??

the tire is junk and I will need another tire. BUT, this is the second flat tire I have had since I got the truck a little over a year ago, and I have been stuck a few times as well, so I'm thinking this is a good excuse to get all new tires, with a little more off-road capability. Unfortunatley with my 265/70/16's I can't go to a higher ply tread according to Les Schwab tires (I have stock suspension, TRD package).

They did quote me for some 245/75/16 at a higher ply of 6. Do you think this would be a good idea. The tires would be High Country ATI, or open country A/T. Would these narrower tires be all that noticeable, and how will they affect my ride quality. I drive ALOT of dirt roads, some very scrappy.

Or should I just say screw it and get a lift and fit some 265/70/16 with higher ply. Any suggestions welcome.

I also would like to ask if a 245/75/16 would fit on my stock rims since they are narrower.

I would look into the rim width range on the tires, but I don't think it would be an issue. I would even look into getting an 8 or 10 ply in the 245, they are a little heavier, but they don't puncture as easy. Plus, the good thing about the 245 is that you can get it in just about any po dunk little town since it's a pretty common size. The narrower tires should handle better on hardpack snow and ice, and seeing as how your in Idaho, might not be a bad idea.

ha ha , you got me. I'm sure what happened was a lowly bobcat fan saw my truck and decided to drive this huge freakin' spike into my tire out of frustration of MSU's poor football program, and the recent domination by the griz.

brawl of the wild should be good this year.

 

im personally not a fan of the "pizza cutters" AKA narrow tires. I love the wide tire look, which is why I had 32-11.5-15 all terrains on 15x10 wheels on my old 4runner.

I have 265-70-16 tires on my tacoma now, and theres no problem with that at all.

Also for the winter set, I have 31-10.5-15 all terrains. No problems anywhere.

 

Don't even get me started on the lowly Bobcat football problem, I've been to the tailgate every game but one, and lets just say I haven't actually been into the stadium, because we can't win against a decent team.

But yes, I will be finely tuned for the Brawl of the Wild this year. Getting tickets may be fun, for some reason I think that's the only game they'll sell out this year.

 

i think a 265/75/16 also will fit stock just to give you some more options.

 

Just get some 265/75/16's. They should fit without needing a lift.

I went with some Mastercraft Courser C/T in 265/75/16 in 6 ply. Love 'em, and have no problems at all. My spare is still 265/70/16, so I think I may look for a used spare in 265/75/16 as I'm not sure it would be a good idea for the spare to be a different aspect ratio.

 

Screw it! Just get the lift and bigger tires! haha

Go with the open country A/T's. You won't be disappointed.
