Procomp 7089 hubcentric or not?

I searched for this info, and didn't come up with a definite answer so I'm posting here. i apologize if I just missed something. I am about to order some 7089's as they are running a discount and offering free shipping at 4wheelparts.com. They are offered in hubcentric and non-hubcentric (lug centric I assume) models. I'm pretty sure I need the non-hubcentric ones for a 2009 DC, but I want to check before I drop $400+ on them. Thanks for your help.

For the 05+ Tacoma they only come in a lug centric version. Just make sure you get the shanked lugs.

Get new lugs nuts, if not from the vendor selling you the wheels then from Gorilla.

12 x 1.5 acorns with the socket. They even have black ones to go with the rims.

Did you want/order center caps? I still have mine new in the box and never installed them.

The lugs in the first link are not correct. I know this is what 4WP will sell you for this application but they are not correct. there has been lots of discussion on this one. These wheels are lug centric. standard acorn style lugs dont always center the hole in the wheel over the lug well. Plus they dont provide much thread coverage on the tacoma. you need shanked lug nuts that fit over the lug and in the hole in the wheel like the ones in the upper right in the second link. these provide much better thread coverage and center the hole in the wheel with the lug. do a search ive gone into this before with these wheels. unfortunately no one has found this type of lug nut in black.

Do you have any close-up pictures? If you do, I'd like to see the difference between the two where they make contact with the wheel.

Now I'm confused. Are you saying the ones in MJP2's link (part# 21138ETXL) are the correct lugs? If so, I guess I screwed up and need to order some. I haven't noticed any ill effects from the pro comp ones.............yet.

as far as the center caps, i think im going to go without. i kinda like the look better, and it'll be one less thing to tear up on the trails. Thanks for the offer though.

Just so you guys know. We carry many different styles of Lug Nuts rom Gorilla. Both in regular chrome and black chrome. The ET (extended thread) nuts come in chrome and reach down into the wheel so that you get more bite on the stud.

This is the lug nut im talking about. they also help to center the wheel on the lug better than just the tapered type. In the gorilla link above its the ET-XL style. See how there is a shank on the thread side that goes into the hole on the wheel.

You may never see problems. but, without the shank its easier to misalign the wheel and cause problems as well as Dan said you dont get as much bite on the lug.

I will try to do a graphic to show the difference.

Heres a primitive graphic... to show. think of it as a cut away side view.

Blue would be the wheel
black the hub
green the lug
red shanked lug nut
Yellow unshanked lug nut

You can see that the unshanked lug nut relies on the taper to center the wheel hole over the lug. friction can sometimes prevent it from centering completely. the shanked lug nut the shank centers the wheel hole over the lug. this is especially important in a lug centric wheel. you can also see that the shank covers more of the lug providing a stronger connection to the hub.

Great info and excellent explanation! Looks like I was shipped sub-optimal lugs when I bought my wheels. I'll be upgrading in the near future.

Thanks!!

unfortunately gorilla doesn't make this type in black. so youre kinda stuck with chrome... but my chrome lugs are actually growing on me a little. just a tiny bit of accent to the wheels then just all darkness.

If you've ever seen my truck you'll realize that lug color isn't much of a concern. My main focus is making sure stuff stops breaking every time I use the thing.

I upgraded my wheel studs to longer ones earlier this year. I just posted details in this thread earlier this morning:
