If you were in my shoes...

I hope you guys don't get this too much but i want some opinions on four different tires i am considering buying. I am not a heavy off roader but still need the ability to get dirty once in a while. We do have serious winter here in Manitoba - so lots of snow 5 mths of the year. I'd do a poll if i knew how but....... i am choosing between:

1. BF AT's (typical - i have had them before)
2. Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac
3. Goodyear Wrangler MT/R with Kevlar (might be too aggressive - hard on gas?)
4. Toyo Open Country A/T

What do you think?

i have heard good things about the toyo's but i would also like to try the duratrak's with kevlar. i have bfg's and have not problem.

BFG's all terrains are a good choice. Great all around tires but I'm curious about the DuraTracs. They will be my next set.

 

I got BFG's and I dont really care for them. They just dont clean out well, and suck in snow over 2-3"s. But I have heard good things about the Duratrac's and the Nitto Terra Grapplers.

 

Wow, i guess i should go with the BF's because that was said with the most conviction that i have ever seen.

I am starting to like the DuraTrac's however.

 

You can never go wrong with BFG's! It's a tried and tested tire.

 

I like the Goodyear Duratracs...Their more agressive than the BFG A/T but not as nasty as a M/T...seems to be the perfect combo IMO

Oh their cheaper and they have a beefier sidewall

 

I know the below tires arent in your list but I thought I would drop some info based on experience.

Before getting a tire, think REALLY hard about how its going to be used. Some people like the look of an MT tire but unless you really are going to be using the tire for what it is made for, all you will be getting is a noisy tire that kills your gas mileage, rides harshly.

I have had BFG ATs on and off for much of my adult life. They are OK tires. They can wear funny and are less than perfect on the freeway. They are also not snow rated unless you specifically get the snow rated ones.

I have had GREAT luck with the Bridgestone Revos. It's a great highway tire has excellent snow ratings and is very good at cleaning itself Off road if need be.

Also look into the Yokohama Geolander. I have them on my wife's Sequoia and they are a great relatively aggressive tire. Great traction.

^^^ ahhh yes, the geolander, i forgot about that one. There are a few trucks around town running those and i thought they looked good. I'll check them out.

You should visit the discount tire web site and read some reviews on tires that helped me with my choice. I got these today most people overlook michelins at. I've had BFG before I dont like them. If you want stock size I recommend these.

Like someone said earlier you need you figure out what you are going to be using them for the most. I bought a set of mts for my truck mostly cause they looked cool and I burned them up running up and down the high way. I would get an a/t like the geolander or something along that line of tire!

Duratracs, no doubt!!! Buy these, great all-around tires.
