265's/285's?

I was wondering im going to be installing a 3" inch lift soon and i was wondering which size tires I should get 265's or 285's? If you would include pictures and why you decide on whichh size.

I did some offroading last weekend in Cleghorn, and even with the trimming, my tires sounded like they wanted to rip my fenders off while under flex.

With 285's how much rubbing have you guys had? Also what size should I get if i want full flex and no rubbing? Can i get no rubbing with 285's and 3 inch lift?

With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine.

With no rubbing, and full flex, your looking at a 265/75/16

you failed to mention if you are using the stock wheels. if you are you will need to get some wheel spacers, and even with them you will still get a little rub(nothing you cant fix with a heat gun). i am personally going with the 265's to get full articulation without rub although i will still probably get the spacers

In my 1st Gen with 265's i only get a little rub, and I am not lifted yet. You guys should be just fine with the 265's.

when i ran 265/70/17 on stock wheels w/ 1.25" spacers, the only rubbing I had was when I jumped my truck 5 feet in the air, they kissed the fenders. Other than that, I had no issues with rubbing.

now with the 285/70/17, they dont rub with normal day-2-day driving, but they still rub while flexing. They are still rubbing plastic after trimming (i should trim more) they are also rubbing the cab mounts.


this with a 3" lift.

I think i am going to run 265/75/16's. But now my question is do i need backspacing to have no rubbing with these tires and how much would i need if any?

You can run that size just fine on the OEM wheels.

IMO I think the tire can make a huge difference...for example, a beefy M/T will look tougher than a highway tire or even a A/T obviously...what I mean is that you don't have to squeeze a big O' tire in the wheel wells to look tough and cool ya know? Function is more important than looks but if you can both than

I went with 285's I had minor rubbing up in the front of the wheel well,I went with the 285's because i think they look better and function the same.Just my 2.

And that extra 1" in tire size only yields about 1/2" in ground clearance. 1/2" grond clearance doesnt mean much. I agree in which I would rather be more able to stuff the tire without rubbing.
