whats a long lasting tire

im thinking of getting some A/Ts for the taco, and want a 80,000 or so tire. goodyears are a favorite but cost alot, what do you recommend for someone on a budget but that has a nice look with a 3" lift on stock rims.

p.s. the wife likes 'em quiet. so that may play a part also.

Long lasting tires = Shitty ride.

 

Michelin's are the Cadillac of tires but they ain't cheap. No shitty ride.

 

The Michelin LTX's are what I am running now. They are a quiet tire and they do well in the rain and what snow I have put them through. I have about 15k on them now and I am satisfied. I did not like the stock Dunlops or Firestone Destinations I had on before. I decided to go for a longer lasting tire this time around, I hope it pays off.

Michelin LTX M/S or M/S2. Rotate every 5,000 miles and you should get 80,000. I'm approaching 40,000 miles and have about half the tread left.

 

The longest lasting tires I ever owned were on my tricycle. Solid rubber. But the ride suffered a tad. I think the question should be what tires can I get that have long life while at the same time good all weather traction? Or get some of those nice tires like they have on the monster trucks. Enormous cleats and minimal revolutions = long treadwear life. Actually, I am kind of partial to Yokohama Geolander AT/S for reasonably good tire life, some traction and a quiet ride.

to everyone else thanks i will look into those tires 40k and half the tread thats really good. i run bfg's on my 86 toyota 4runner and my brother runs them on his 94 4runner but looking for something better then the 60-65k i got out of them. trying to save the money now for when i need them next spring, got the lift already and now for some tires

Ok, you made your point. I had fun too. Lots of good information on many tire types and sizes via The Tire Rack. Just scroll to the top of the page and pull down the shop online button. You can see the tread designs, tread wear life, traction ratings, and prices. If that don't work then you probably should look at the BFG's you were running on your other rigs because 60-65K out of a tire is pretty respectable. Good luck on your search. K

 

ztx, my suggestion to you is to start saving up specifically for your tires so that you can also remain budget conscious. My wife and I do that on a lot of different things and it saves us a whole lot of headaches.

Some advance planning and execution of said plan sure does make things easier.
