Which would you pick?

Just picked up my '10 Access Cab V6 4x4 6-spd last night This morning, I realized (I guess I knew already) the stock Dunlop 245s had to go. Here's how the new tires will be used: Long highway drives followed by driving on undeveloped, often rugged, work sites. For example, my 2000 Tacoma was the primary shuttle for workers heading up a steep jeep trail to the top of a mountain for a wind farm project - but I had to do 300 highway miles to get there. On my 2000 I've had BFG A/T KOs (LT) and Michelin LTX A/T2s (LT). The BFG's were better off road, the Michelin's way quieter on road. Anyway, this time I'm looking at those two tires plus the Pro Comp A/Ts. I've heard whispers that the Pro Comps are good, but can't find too much on them. Anyone got other suggestions for a tire that would be the best of both worlds? What about size? I'm thinking either 235/85-16 or 265/75-16. With the 235s could I go taller and get away without rubbing due to the lesser width?

 

BFG 265x75R16. Gots them on my truck. Wicked on and off road.

 

what about the Good Year Wrangler Dura Tracks , how about you check them out and see . Good for the road but can handle the trails too .

Is anyone running 235/85s? I was thinking it might help out with gas mileage a little bit...

Other - 265/75/16

All the hardcore wheelers I know insist BFG is a good tire but overpriced for what you get. They say look into Hankook, Yokohama, Toyo for better performance for your money.

I myself plan to slap a set of Cooper STTs on mine when the Rugged Fails wear down.

 

Our trucks are light so wide tires give alot of floatation. 235/85s are skinny and excellent in snow, because of the width (lack of width) they cut down to the pavement thats why i voted for em' Theyre a cheaper size too

The 235/85 16 duratracs look amazing offroad and are banded with the severe snow emblem

 

Check out toyo at's. Super quiet and amazing offroad!

 

I have Goodyear Wrangler Armortrac 265/75/R16, they're very quiet on the road but are decent off road as well. I'm not sure what conditions your going through, though.

I voted the BFG 265s because those were the ones I was going to get originally, but couldn't b/c of the price.

 

BFG's, I have used them on a couple of vehicles and although the street noise is noticable it is not bad at all. And they last and perform well.

 

Another Duratrac fan here. I've had them for 5 months and they're awesome on and off road tires

I've been told michelins have the lowest rolling resistance there was an article online somewhere but i can't find it now

 

I'm surprised at the number of posts w/o a mention of the General Grabber AT2. There have been several Grabber threads recently. Search "General" in the thread titles and you'll find them.

I think they'd be great for what you need, and they're inexpensive compared to some of the other options.
