another noob, more of the same questions....help please!

so sorry for asking the same thing that's been asked before, but going with the 3" toytec ultimate lift kit and looking for new tires. i've already decided i want to keep my stock 16" rims (who wouldn't, they rule) but everyone seems to get 265/75/r16 for a new tire but that's what my truck came with....so what now?

i know i don't want to goto a 285 b/c of potential rubbing and realistically I don't do any serious hardcore offroading, more highway and city driving for work. ....so what's left? 275? does it make that much of a diff over 265's? what bout 285/70/16 ..not as wide so it should be easier on gas and hopefully lessen the chance of rubbing? help please

If you are going to crank to 3" on the toytecs, definitely go 285. Your truck came with 265/70 from the factory, not 265/75.

If you are not going to crank to 3", the 265/75 will look good on there.

 

As stated earlier the stock on an offroad model is 265/70r16 a 265/75r16 is one size up and about an inch taller. With the 265/75r16 size you should have no rubbing issues even at full lock.

There aren't too many tires made in 275. The bfg all terrain that I know about in that size is a 275/70r16 and is about .4" wider and .4" taller than stock. So a 265/75r16 is actually taller than that 275.

Another thing worthy of mention is 285's won't work without either an after market uca(upper control arm) or wheel spacers because they'll rub the uca.

 

285/70/16 and 285/75/16 will both rub w/o new uca's? I was wondering if the 285/70 since its a bit narrower wouldn't rub possibly, but I guess not

which is the better route to go then in y'alls opinion? 265/75/16 or 285/70/16? ....the 265/75/16 just doesn't seem like that much of an increase over the stock offroad tire (265/70/16)

 

If you are going to go with a 3" lift then might as well go with the 285 otherwise, what was the point of lifting?

I dont know if you are going bigger. The bigger ones are the same shape and that seemed to be the major issue for me. The Konig Countersteer Offroads seem to have the shape needed. I called JLB Motorsports and they told me that they have put the Konigs on like 100 Tacomas and never had a rub issue. Thats probably the route Im gonna go.
