Okay, so I purchased the Toytec Ultimate Lift Kit and in the mean time I have been shopping for tires and rims. A local shop keeps telling me that 33X12.50X18 tires will fit without any rubbing issues. I want to believe them, but everything I have read no one is running that wide of a tire. Does anyone have any ideas?

im running a 3512.50r18 with my 6 inch lift and it rubs at full lock and half with a lil compression. ive been thinking on down sizing to a 33x12.50 to help with this problem. cuz i dont have the tools to hack up my body mount.

what's the tire size you want to run (in metric)?

too lazy to convert it, but i'm running 305/55 20's with a -21mm offset wheel and i had to trim quite a bit, including the cab mounts.

even some 285 setups rub the cab mount, but it'll all depend on the wheels you are planning on running and what kind of backspacing / offset they've got.

Keason1, it's the guys at Rock and Roll Offroad that are telling me this. They have built two bad ass tacomas up there that they have at the shop, so I want to believe them. 318/60/18 is the metric size.

I ordered a set of 285/17/17 Toyo MT and rims on Saturday, but when I got home I had voicemail that said they only had 3 of the rims I ordered in stock and that they couldnt get another one in for 4 to 5 weeks, so they changed the order to 18's in the same rim and a 33X12.50X18 tire for the same price since it was their fault. I have been emailing them asking about the fit, but they keep telling me there wont be a problem and not to worry. I dont want to put my lift on and then get to the shop just to have the tires not fit.

In my experience, the maximum tire height without rubbing in a 3" lift is 32". The 33" tire will fit but will have rubbing in wheel wells or cab mount. Rubbing will be experienced when at at full lock or turning with suspension compressing.

The amount of rubbing will also depend on the wheel backspacing, the actual tire height, the tire width and caster adjustment. Most are running 285/75/16 which is 33x11.5x16. I think the 12.5" width will rub more, but it depends on the other factors. The only person I know who runs this tire is HBTacoma but he has RCD 4.5" lift.

You will for sure, have rubbing. However, it will be very minimal rubbing, most of which will be on the front part of your fender. Use a sharp knife or dremill tool to trim the plastic. On very sharp turns, backing up, you will also run on your body mount, but very little.

Edit: you would have less rubbing with the 285/70/17's which are 11.5 wide, where as the 33/12.5/18's are an inch wider.

I figured there would be rubbing issues either way. It came down to me not being patient enough to wait 4 or 5 weeks for the 17s, so I just took what the shop was offering.

I have no problem with having to trim, but I'm just gonna have to find a shop that can do the cab mounts. I have been looking at snowboarders rig because he is running a 33X12.5X17, and I his truck is sick! I was just so set on getting the 285/70/17s that this whole thing kinda had me second guessing the 33X12.5, but im gonna roll with it and see how it comes out.
