Depends on what most of you're driving is. I've had both tires, and they're both great. Duratracs are much better off-road and in snow, but you'll see better gas mileage out of the TG's if you're staying on the pavement.

I'm on the pavement most of the time, but when I'm not, I like to have the traction the Duratrac's provide. Plus they just look way better IMO...

Went with the E's, needed tires as I hated the tires that were on it when I bought it.

Time for another "will these fit?" question/debate... I'm definitely buying Duratracs... the size is what I'm debating... I'm leaning towards the 285's (depending on your guys thoughts)

2013 TRD Sport DC with 3" pro comp lift (coils and shocks, not the cheapy block lift sh!t) with stock 17" rims...

Do I get the stock size 265's? or 285's? and why for either?

Will I have back spacing / rubbing issues if I got 285? If so, will it just take some minor trimming and I'm good to go? Or pickup some spacers to go with?

According to the "tire size calculator", 285's are only 1.1" taller and 0.79" wider... so I'm leaning towards the 285's. I don't think that 1" taller and not quite 1" wider would cause severe rubbing... nothing a potential trim job can't fix, would it?

Satoshi'd grill. blacked out badges. aftermarket sound system. De-chromed and color matched. OME 885s + Dakars with 3rd leaf removed. LR UCAs. Scs stealth 6 with 285 duratracs. BAMF sliders
If you mount the 285s on stock wheels the tire will rub the upper control arm unless you get wheel spacers or a wheel with less backspacing. Even with the perfect offset you will still need to remove mudflaps and trim. If you offroad and depending on other factors like alignment specs your tires might rub the body mount and you will need to do the cab mount chop, some guys say they don't need to do it, i had to trim the shit out of the cab mount. One inch can make a big differnece (thats what she said :D)

I have a 5-5.5" lift and just took my 285's off for 265's. I had minor rubbing with the 285's at full lock but nothing that I had to cut for and that was with aftermarket rims with a 4.5 offset. I would imagine you would probably have some issues with stock rims and a 3" lift with 285's.

All I'll say is that I just swapped my Duratracs for Duratracs a few weeks ago. I simply could not find any reason not to go with another set. I'm putting the ones I took off on my son's Tacoma (First gen regular cab) because they are better than the big ole mud terrain tires he has on there now. The Duratracs got somewhat louder once they got over 50,000 miles on them but they still have plenty of tread left (7/16) and will be whisper quiet compared to the boy's mudders. I put new ones on since I plow with my truck and need the bite. FWIW I love these tires and can't imagine switching.

Wow ... ya'll are making me seriously consider going with Duratracs to replace my Blizzaks next fall (they've got one more season left on them). Then when I wear out my Silent Armors, I'd just run Duratracs year round. Can anyone tell me if there is a difference in snow/ice performance between P rated and E (LT) rated. I run LTs for fishing/hunting season due to quite a bit of time on gravel. I've had too many friends cut down P rated tires.

OP: Sorry, not trying to thread jack here, started typing and submitted before I thought about it.

I currently have 41K on my Duratracs. They have been the best all-season truck tire that I have ever owned. I plan on buying a new set next summer.

I got Duratrac's 265/75/16 when I got my lift about a month ago.
Question: How do the tires handle the sand or dunes? Im going to Glamis this weekend, and i'm aware that i'll have to air them down to ~15 PSI. Im just looking to take out some of the guesswork, and have some fun:)

I have the same tires and pretty much same truck. Mine is probably a bit heavier tho ;) I've been in some really soft beach sand without airing down and have been fine. Never got stuck, and even pulled some stuck vehicles out of the sand without airing down.
After pulling my buddy's stuck titan out of this, I drove around in the same spot with 40 PSI in the tires just to show him how :D
    [IMG]
Pulled TW member Luka out of the sand a couple times too  He's currently working on converting his prerunner to 4x4.

Anybody else's MPG drop ~3 when they put duratracs on? I just put on 265/70/17 load range C and my mpg dropped to ~14 and that's mostly highway.

I've had my Duratracs on my Tacoma for 2.5 years with about 23K miles total. They definitely get louder over time. My 3 year old noticed the road noise the other day and asked if I could make the noise stop.

Surprisingly the road noise doesn't bother me. Zero vibrations because the tires are balanced.

In the two and 1/2 years I've had them I've had two tire punctures. But that does not speak to the quality of the tire... The shit I ran over would have punctured any LT tire.

Overall I'm happy with them. I hope I get 2 more years and 25K more out of them. :)
