stock wheels

Just wondering if anyone has put 285/75 R16 tires on their stock 16 X 7 rims after a 3" lift. Or are the rims too narrow? I was thinking of doing this insteading of getting new wheels to save some $$$ and deal with all the hassle with new TPMS sensors.

If your truck is an 05+ you will rub your tires on the UCA (upper control arm). How much you rub will depend on the tire you choose some are worse than others. You either get a wheel spacer of get differant wheels.

after my 3" lift I plan on putting 285/75 r16, BF Goodrich MTs on the stock 16" rims. I've been looking around for spacers. What size would I need to keep from rubbing 1.25", 1.5", or 2"?

one more thing: I'm still thinking about whether to keep stock rims or get new rims. I've been looking at tirerack.com. When you choose wheels based on your vehicle, they show a bunch of wheels with 4.5" backspacing. I'm not sure if they they take into account the fact that people might be using larger than stock tires. My question is if I do decide to get aftermarket wheels and run 285 70 R 17 tires, what backspacing do I need to get, to make sure that I won't need a wheel spacer.

I was highly advised not to go wider than 265 for the 16 x 7. I was trying to order from discount tire, and they said there would be to much flex. Said 7.5 or prefferably 8.0 for good that size tire.

Or you could go 265/75/16

Not sure if true just sharing some info, but makes sense.
