Anybody ever change out the rear wheel studs?

    3 of mine were sheared off, I was lookin at how to replace them and it looks like I have to take the whole axle shaft out to put in new lugs and that just seems stupid to me. Anyone know of a different way that i'm not seein here? thanks for the help if any.

    here we go. Ford 9" rear after breaking 5 sets of gears in the stock yota 8.8, 5.13 gears with a detroit hard locker, 63" chevy leafs and custom hangers, sky's front spring hanger with sky's extream hysteer and PSC hydro assist ram and PSC pump. welded front spyders in the f-550 front dana 60 with warn hubs, pico brake lines and hoses, elecrtic fan, TRD supercharger with URD 2.1 Pully, URD Map-ECU2 and cage built by me. wide band a/f by inovations, lots and lots more...........
    rear no you dont just fined a spot that it will clear and knock them out. and if your truck doesnt have a spot to do that just unbold the 4 bolts and pull the axle out not hard at all

    what about pressing the new ones back in though?....well i could just tighten the wheels back on and pull them through that way...

    4.10 gears, sliders, and lots of buttons.
    I useually use a stack of washers, and use the lug nut to pull the new stud thru. Push the stud in, then put a stack of washers around it, and thread on the lug nut. I wouldnt use the wheels to pull it thru.

    thanks chris and yota beast, thats a good idea with the washers...I have one more problem with it though, how do i separate the brake drum from it to put the new stud thru? its attached to the hub somehow...

    You will see a couple of threadded holes in the brake drum. I cant remember the size off hand, but you can thread a bolt into the holes, and it will pull it off.

    Sounds crazy but put the new studs in the freezer for about an hour then heat the hub up just a little bit they slide right in. after everything cools and heats back to normal they are there for good. no beating them in or turning wrenches.

    A good idea is to use a sacrificial lug nut to pull the studs threw. That or get yourself a grade 8 nut the same size. If you have nice lug nuts sometimes it will mess them up. I know that I paid $7 a piece for mine so I am kind of paticular.
