Tire size

Does anyone know what size tires would start making the 2.7 slow down and lose power I have 31's right now.

The tires you have on are part of the problem. I just swapped on 31" tires and lost 2.5 MPG and I can feel it's down on power...
I had the stock 225's on beforehand.

Thought SR5 came stock with 31s - mine got 22-23mpg all day - of course larger tires will make mileage seem less as you have significantly changed the ratio the speedo cable turns(less rotation for larger tires= what appears to be lower mileage) put on small tires and watch your mileage skyrocket as speedo cable turns faster

Question

I have heard of guys blowing their transmissions due to tire size. And of course the loss of mileage. The tranny has to work to hard and quite often is the same problem with towing to what toyota quotes as capacity. The constant changing of gears is hard on it and you could burn out your overdrive. I have an O.D shut off switch on mine and I use it when I have to tow something or even bucking a headwind. To me that`s better than wrecking something. Any thoughts?

The guy I bought my tires from was telling me about the tranny issues. And yeah, they were automatics. My truck has th ECT button and I`m trying it out. Stiffens up the shift patterns I`m told. Seems to be working as I don`t have that constant shifting in and out of overdrive. Maybe the tire guy is full of shit though? Anyone else got more thoughts on this?
