BF Goodrich Mud-Terrains
I saw some 285 BF Goodrich Mud-Terrains on an FJ Cruiser today, and I really liked them. Has anyone had good/bad experiences with these tires? Do 285's fit on a 2005 PreRunner without a lift?

i love the mud terrains on mine. most people run a 285/70 and u'll definately need a lift to run them. a 3" would be enough to run them. i got the LT255/75/17's on mine b/c i got them really cheap

I've run MT's on many different vehicles.....
I wouldn't recommend them for a daily driver. They can get 'squirely' in the rain and they suck on hard packed (plowed) roads. They're awesome for the trails.

What kind of tires are you running now? Are you haveing problems getting stuck? Or are you simply looking for something a bit more aggressive?

Well I don't have the truck yet, I'm just trying to get a list of what I plan on purchasing. Of course they will be stock, with the Off-Road Package. I want something aggressive. My buddy has a 95 XJ, and we go mudding, and if he gets stuck, we need to pull him out. but yea, i go off road a lot.

![]() I was looking at the Nitto Mud Grappler and Terra Grappler, and it seems the Terra has better road drivability (sp?) what do all those other numbers mean? LT285/65R 18E. and what's all this talk about negative offset and backspace? |

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete....jsp?techid=46 And here's a site about wheel backspacing & offset, etc. https://www.rsracing.com/tech-wheel.html You're much better off reading about it than me trying to explain it. It's kinda hard to explain. Have fun muddin'.... You might wanna extend your rear differential breather to prevent water from getting in your diff. Especially, since you're muddin a lot.

oohhh to that, cause I just did this the other day, I mounted the breather plug in my upper lock box in the bed of my truck! But, I went to Canadian tire, and they got these cool little cone looking air filter that fits nicely around my breather plug, obviously void of all fuction, but for $5 it looks really cool, like a mini intake in the back of my truck, only for my differential!

I sorta understand the numbers now. But I read the backspace and I got a headache trying to understand it.

You're better off researching what other tacoma owners have purchased (in backspacing) and a similar style wheel. Can't go wrong with what others have done! That's what the forum is all about!

I had BFG All-Terrians on my 98 Taco and they where by far the best tire I have owned on all my trucks. They work really good in the rain/snow/on road and are awesome off-road even in soft sugar sand.

Not to contradict, but the reason I didnt get the BF Goodrich A/T KO's on my f-150 is cause I heard they werent great on ice (just what I heard), Instead eneded up running the Yokohoma Geolander's AT/S 285/75/17, That I picked up for $700 in Detroit.(included balancing, installation etc) And I have to say while I never got to see how they wear since I crashed the truck and ruined the tires, but they were absolutley amazing in ice and snow, I barely ever had to switch the truck outta 4x2, even when going up steep hills with all my tools in the bed!

I've always had good performance from Bridgestone Dueler A/T's and/or Dueler Revo's. I'm not sure they make the Dueler A/T's anymore....
They're both an all-terrain type tire. Not sure about muddin with 'em. They'd be a good all-around offroad tire for basic offroad trips. Do some research on the Goodyear MTR's and Procomp Xterrains. |
