Terra grapplers or Geolanders AT tires?

Ok so I have decided to go with a 285/75/16 on my 03 double cab with a 3in lift. My next question is what tire to go with. I have narrowed it down to 2, the nitto terra grappler and the yokohama geolander AT-S. The Geolander is $100 cheaper a set and Ive had a set before and loved them. Low road noise, great self cleaning ability in GA clay, wallet friendly, and lasts forever. I got right under 60k on a set of 32x12.50's. I have heard great things about the terra grapplers as well just not sure if they are worth the extra $100 over a tire that has already proven itself to me before. So my question is; is the terra grappler that much better of a AT tire than the geolander?

Just my opinion. What are you getting quoted on Nittos? I wouldn't think they would be that much more. 25 bucks a tire isn't really that much.

If I were you I would just get what you really want.

 

I've never heard anything bad about nitto's!

 

Many people complain that the nittos wear faster because they're made from a softer rubber compound, but at the same time the grip is excellent on and off-road. I've only heard good things about the geolanders though. I haven't had either so I can't personally testify to either.

 

The 10 plies last a lot longer. The thing about tires like that is that they are a lot less forgiving if you have a lifted truck because the alignment probably isn't right and people hardly ever do rotations like they should. You would be surprised how much more tires last when you maintain them properly.

 

cant go wrong wtih either tire, they are both great all around at tires. go with whichever one you decide looks better... should it be the nitto see if you can get a better deal on them.

 

I had a set of NTGs that lasted about 27k miles and they were slicks! Don't get me wrong the traction was amazing off road...I went to hell and back with those things, they just don't last for shit

I saw your tires in action out in the desert on sand and rock...even the steep shit and you didn't slip once

 

Loved my Geolander ATS. Had them on my F150 for about 3 years. Great light mud, snow, no hydroplaning, and quiet on the highway. The wear was minimal and the price is reasonable. good luck on your decision.

 

With all this being said, I do like the terra grapplers but I cant justify throwing out another $100 when I can get the geolanders and not be able to tell a huge difference in performance. Not to mention like whats been said, if you rotate and balance like you should, you can get damn near 60k out of the geolanders. I know its true because I got 55k out of my 32's and my buddy got 60k out of his 31's. The nittos I found for 690 a set and the yokos are 610. Plus, its 80 to mount and balance and free rotation for life of the tire so I could come out with a kick ass AT tire for under $700 with the gelanders. I dont think Im going to find a better deal than that anywhere! Thanks for everyones help!

 

I know nothing about Nitto and Yoko's but I love my Toyo Open Country AT's.

 

I had a set of open country's. 31's got about 30k out of them and got stuck twice in my 98 ext cab. I was not impressed at all

 

Hope the Geolanders are much better than the POS ones that came on the RAV4. They sucked ass and didn't last for shit (with rotations and proper inflation at all times) but were not ATs.

Thats what ive been hearing about the nittos too. That they wear out real quick but I know that the geolanders dont. Thanks for everyones input

 

After this thread I am strongly considering the Yokohama Geolanders for my bone stock 10 4X4 with 16" stock wheels. Do not have a lift and don't plan on getting one. Will 265/75/16s work with out rubbing? Would 265/70/16 be a better fit? Thanks

 

I have the Nitto's right now and they grip pretty good on or off road. Very low noise and it looks good. I also heard that it wears out quickly but I have about 7K with it and still looks brand new.
