Just traded in my OEM BFGs (12,500 miles) on a set of the new Michelin LTX AT2 tires and I love these new Michelins.

I have heard great things about the LTX... I wish they looked 'tougher', but am considering them when the Rugged Trails are ready to retire.

Please keep posting details about them: how they work off road, quietness on the highway (a big deal fior me after having Cooper Discoverer STTs 'screaming'... but they looked so good)...

WOW, a thin skinned bunch around here! I was wondering why the OP posted his OP. Is this not a reasonable request? I understand others like this tire, suck it up buttercup!

Just to frame my question, before the hurt feeling / tough guy nonsense started. I have BFG AT's on one vehicle, and LTX AT's on my work vehicle. I would agree they are vastly superior to Rugged Fails or AT20's. But I find the BFG's perform better in most circumstances, than the LTXs. Lower rolling resistance, and a slightly longer life out of the LTXs. Pics would be cool too.

    EDIT - I see @ BRUNES

I've had both tires. LTX and BFG AT, hence why I spoke up.

And Central Taco was also asking, not just you.

    .

Why do I like the LTX AT2s ?

Because they have super traction (wet & dry) on a concrete or asphalt based road. It was like night & day when I drove away from the tire store.

Have not had them off road. I had the older ATs and these look quite different. They are not swamp & bog tires ... but they are far from the luxo slick sidewall tires on your granny's Crown Vic.

My favorite Michelin (for truck handling) is the Pilot and had that tire on a 2004 Titan and it was super. But it feels more like a 100 rating, sticky, race tire. No off roading with Pilots as they are for handling on hard surfaces.

I need to take some pics and learn how to post them on here from an Apple laptop or iphone.

Since I do not have a pic for you, I googled them and came up with this photo and info --> http://fourwheeler.automotive.com/88679/129-0805-michelin-ltx-at2-tire-test/index.html

FWIW, IMO, they do look a lot more aggressive in real life than in the photos.

Oh, I can hear them bite in the hot asphalt when leaving the driveway, almost sounds like metal studed tires on dry concrete after the snow has melted (in past Canadian driving). Better yet, with window down and driving on asphalt, it sounds and feels like to are driving on sticky fly paper .. not noisy though.

    Hope this helped you guys.

PS ... IMO, these newer AT2s are very different (and better) from the older ATs that I had on my Tundra.

PPS ... I am running stock sized 265/70/16 tires.

I did it again. Got tired of paying truck payments and gas and traded in for a 2015 Honda Accord Sport since I enjoyed my 2013 Sport so much.
Are the Cooper STTs really that loud? I've heard that it was actually one of the quieter MT tires around.

Are BFG ATs and Michellin LTXs even in the same class? I thought that the BFG AT KOs were an AT tire and the LTX more of an all season highway type tire, with M&S capabilites since it's put on trucks.

Yes... and even though the literature said they had sound cancelling technology, I was surprised at how loud they hummed/ roared on the highway. The second reason I would not get them again is the very poor sand driving they gave... Yes, I know they are a mud tire... and they were great on mud and rocks... and also gave the longest mileage of any tire I have had on my three Tacomas (40,000)... but I do most of my four wheeling in deep sand, and the STTs earned the name GRAVE DIGGERS because of how poorly they did on sand... Lowering the pressure to 10 psi was always required to keep from digging in.

These STTs looked great, and were the only tire I had that people actually came to me and commented on them... but, cool looking and mud driving is not the most important features.

I recently read here that the Mickey Thompson Baja ATZs were also very loud, and that was a bummer because I was seriously considering them... They didn't seem to have the aggressive mud tread of the STT.

So, while it would be great to have an off road looking tire, I don't want to crank up AC/DC or Van Halen loud just to cancel out the tires!

Here is what Tire Rack says:

The LTX A/T2 is Michelin's On-/Off-Road All-Terrain light truck tire developed to meet the needs of today's recreational and commercial pickup, van and SUV drivers. The LTX A/T2 was designed to provide even wear, low noise and good fuel efficiency, even in demanding commercial applications while delivering the year-round traction and durability expected from rugged off-road tires without forsaking the on-road comfort and handling expected of a Michelin tire.

The LTX A/T2 features an advanced light truck tread rubber compound molded into an independent tread block tread design featuring Michelin Biting Edges (notched blocks in the tread pattern) that enhance traction on dirt, mud, gravel, wet grass and snow. Michelin's Advanced MaxTouch Construction results in a unique tire footprint shape that allows for long-lasting, even treadwear while their Comfort Control Technology uses computer-optimized design and precision manufacturing to reduce vibrations and road noise to deliver a comfortable ride. The tire's internal structure includes two steel belts (Load Range D and Load Range E sizes add a third steel belt) to enhance durability and tread puncture resistance.
