Can anybody tell me if there should be a concern regarding putting a 285/70-17 as a spare and the heat from the exhaust?

If you have stock exhaust, I wouldn't think there would be a heat issue. I have an '09 TRD Off road 4wd with the stock tires. I put dual exhausts on it and the left side exhaust runs pretty close to the spare tire. I have no issues with exhaust heat. By the time the exhaust gasses get that far back, they have cooled quite a bit.

If you are really concerned about it, you can buy flexible heat shields that clamp on to the exhaust pipe and will protect anything nearby.

    Hope this helps.

    Norm.

Okay, I know a lot of people on this board are running 285's with a spare the same size. Since no one seems to be having an issue with the exhaust and their spare, I'm going to cut the brackets and put one up there. I'll watch it and put a heat shield on the exhaust is I run into any issues.

    Thanks for your suggestions.
