Stock Tire Mileage

So i went to get my wheels balanced and rotated today at America Tire. When the guy checked the tread he said they were below the wear treads and that i needed new tires. I found this odd seeing as i only have 21000 miles on my truck. How many miles have you guys gotten on your stock dunlops?

ALright. He said 20k was about right for stockers and i just laughed at him. No way is that right. My tires don't look new, but i dont think they are close to needing to be changed. I guess he was just hoping to make another $500.

did you go look at the tires your self?

it is pretty easy to see if they are on the ware bars or not.

I would definitely take a look myself and have them show you a tread gauge

my dad used to tell me that dealer tires always got less mileage than a set you'd purchase from a tire place...never understood that...

when i bought my truck it was 3 years old and had 29K on the clock and still on stock tires which i ran for another 10K...

I drive alot (5-6K per month) and have tried most tires. I hate to support the French but Michelins are the way to go. Usually get 80K from them.

50,000 on the Dunlop Grandtek AT20's. Could probably make it to 60000-70000 but I'll probably replace them sooner. Not liking the way they are starting to feel in the rain.

BFG Rugged Trails on D/Cab V6 Auto with TRD Off-Road.

In general a crap tyre, but I'm changing them tomorrow after 40K. They should really have been changed at 35K but I've been short on bucks lately, and the last 5K has been in dry conditions.

As I've mentioned in a few other threads, my front tires were worn out after about 8500 miles because they didn't do an alignment after the suspension TSB. Now I've got two fresh tires and two not so fresh tires.
