I just replaced my 16" stock steel wheels with FJ cruiser 17" aluminum wheels and my local tire shop said there wasn't much tread with FJ wheels and that I might need a different kind of lug nut. Any of you guys run into this? Do I need new lugs or are my stock ones fine?

Thanks Guys! I need to get these. Do you think it will be save for a limited time to keep my stock lugs on there?

Don't do it. It's not good for the wheels and likely not at all safe.

Toyota told me $150. for the set. But I'm probably better off than going with cheap ones from an auto parts store right?

I have a 2001 Tacoma and I bought FJ Wheels. It came with the Lugs that were on the FJs. Are these ok to bolt on?

Are the lugs from the fj 16" different from the sport 17" lugs? I only ask cause I bought my fj rims they came with lugs but the tire shop reused my sports lugs claiming the fjs lugs were the same as the one I already had.

I don't have a sport but I'm not so sure about that. Pull one off and see if it matches the pic above. If it's an acorn style, you may want to get those switched asap.

I just ran into this issue. Sitting at the tire shop waiting on a guy from a local wheel shop to deliver new lugs.... Wish I had seen this first.

Does anyone have a picture of what these look like? My shop could not find them, so these wheels are still sitting in my bed :(

I can't help with the 16" to 17" conversation, but the 17" Tacoma Sport wheels and the 17" FJ Wheels use exactly the same lug nuts.

I believe the steel wheels use conical centering lug nuts and the aluminum are a straight shank lug.

So there are not to be used on each other.
