Very interesting. I will have to look into this. Wonder how they would look on a silver truck.

What did you do about the TPMS sensors?

5th gear is now reserved for 70+mph and no AC on... I would really like to put in 3.73 gears to get the truck back its power. I still can't find a shop around here that will do a 3rd member swap and I don't have the tools to do it myself.

They are in the old wheels/tires in my shed... The tire shop tried to fit one of the sensors in one of the black wheels but they didn't fit of course so he put it back in the old silver steelie. But when the old wheels were in the back of my truck all pumped up to 35ish psi the TPMS light was still on... So I have a suspicion that he broke the sensor he took out. I'm just going to put some tape over the light. It's really annoying.

From what I was previously told, it looked like the size of tires you got wouldn't cause any noticeable loss of power, and they would actually correct the speedo/odo. I guess I was told wrong?

I noticed you're from Asheville.....Geeze with all hilly terrain & tranny repair shops in Asheville you would think someone could handle a third member swap. Have you tried Jim Barkleys' for this ? Asheville is my favorite place and If I could afford the cost to live there, I'd be there in a hurry. Good luck and thanks for the info.

    Andrew,
The speedo correction will happen with the tire swap....it's just the 3.31 gears for manual transmission models are marginal at best for real truck use and once you toss 225 or 235/75 tires on the truck you are going to struggle at times depending on your location. IMO these trucks should come w/ 235/75 tires and 3.73-3.90 gears. The only real penalty I see is the increased weight of larger tires cutting into MPG a bit and once you go to different gearing, your speedo will really be off.

Is there a way to totally disable the whole TPMS system?

Now I have to rethink which tires I want to go with when the stock tires wear out. There's a lot of back roads in my area that I drive everyday, with lots of hills and curves. I definitely don't want to buy new rims, tires, and re-gear...I just don't have the funds for that.

    Ever decide on a tire?

I really like these and am considering getting a set when I have to get new tires in the nearer future.

    http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Firestone&tireModel=Destination+A%2FT

They offer a few sizes that might not be terrible if looking to stray a little from the stock size.

    215/75/15
    225/70/15
    225/75/15
    235/70 & 75/15

Currently there are Firestrone Destinaton LEs on my truck. The only thing I've got a little concern with is the 215/70/15 comes in at a whopping 23 lb tire.

Those all range from 28-31 lbs. I can't decide if I'm thinking it over to much or not, thats at min, 5 lbs a tires, 20 lbs all over, 32 at the max but I wouldn't be going for a 235. I have a small concern about my wheel bearings, braking, performace (Auto Trans,4x2).

I like this "mod" and can't beat the price, something I will consider. I think a set of center caps would really finish it off. Kind of like a set of black steelies you would see on a P71 Police Interceptor!

That looks awesome! Since the TPMS sensors didn't fit on the black rims, is the tire light always on?

What can you run on the stock steelies if you have a Fat Bob 2.5" lift on a 5-lug?

I did mine too! I just sanded the spare rims down and painted them with BBQ pit paint.

Looks way better! Btw,mine is a 4cyl,2014 access auto 2wd,and I also want a bigger tire on stock suspension, but don't want to ruin the gas mileage as I plan to be on the road a lot,and I hear that to much width, height can increase rolling resistance and lug a 4cyl down..Anyone with personal experience or knows someone directly who has checked the before/after mileage? Thanks,Randy

Just another data point here. Stock wheels, stock height 2009 Access Cab 5 lug, 4cyl, MT. Yes, it's slow. The bigger tires (235/75/15) don't rub or anything, but they are a touch noticeably slower. Nothing too bad at all. Eventually I'd like to regear.

I apologize for the bad lighting in the pictures. If anyone has specific requests I'll do my best to answer.

Apologies for necromancing this thread but I really like the look and fitment of this wheel and tire combo. Does anyone know if this would actually work on a 2013 Tacoma base regular cab?
