BFG AT KO or Bridgstone Revo 2 for MPG and Snow/Ice traction

Hello gang, I am wanting to purchase some new rubber for my '08 Tacoma DC TRD. I am going to order 265/70/R17 size rubber for it. My question is this, what would the fuel economy difference between the two tires be? The BF(LT-rated) is heavier than the Revo 2 (P-rated) but how much would this affect MPG. Right now I am getting about 19-21 MPG (11.5L-12L per 100km) mixed driving with the stocker's. Also I need a good tire for snow/ice up here in Canada so what would you guys/girls recommend?? The truck is on road 85% of the time except when hunting season arrives. I read some where that BF lost there "snowflake" rating on their AT KO's, is this true? Anyways any input good or bad to help me make my decision between these 2 choices would be greatly appreciated. Scott

I can't answer your questions on the MPGs. But I can tell you that I recently purchased 265/75/R16 (123S rating) and it did come with a snowflake on it.

depends what you want, the duratracs are a soft rubber, and the bfgs shouldnt decrease your mpgs that much at all. it would be minimal if anything. the only time you would notice a big change is if you increased the size, which is like a 1mpg difference going from a 265 to 285. I love the bfgs, but whatever you like you should get.

if you look under the specs tab on the site it tells you which size is not rate for severe snow

Anyway, I'll just share my research since I don't know that anyone can give you the right answer. I am in PA and snowboard once a week. When the snow starts falling, I hit the road for a 35min hike up the mountain. I wanted a tire good on snow. My truck is also on the road about 95% of the time but I wanted something that looked a bit more aggressive and could get me back to a fishing hole every now and then.

I opted against the BFG AT's because they have too aggressive of a tread pattern and are loud (my neighbor has them and I have compared). I have also heard from other members that they moderately reduce your MPG's.

I liked the Duratrac's but was quoted $1150 for them. I stopped my research there.

I decided on the Bridgestone Dueller AT Revo2's. I got them for $750 OTD (after a $100 mail-in rebate). They ride GREAT and are not noticeably louder than my stockers were. It hasn't snowed yet so I can't speak to their winter performance - but I'm told they're pretty good.


Finally, if I could find a good deal on them (and I couldn't), I would get the GoodYear Wranglers SilentArmor. They are snowflake rated, supposed to be very quiet (kevlar base), and have moderate off-road ability. I was quoted $950 for these.

I read somewhere it was it compound of the tire changes for some sizes. Not completely sure though. I'm from the SF Bay Area and hit up Tahoe every other weekend or so as well. I'm pretty much on the road most of the time except boarding or maybe Pismo beach occasionally. I was told the Revo's look better in person than picture.

I was torn between the two as well but I'm going to end up getting the Revo2's as well. I wanted to get Firestone Destination AT @ 275/70/17 but but got the Revo2's @ 265/70/17 instead. But because of availability and price I just ended up with Revos.

Hey fella's just an update, I ended up with going the 265/70/R17 BFG's AT KO's. So far pretty happy with them. I only lost about 1-1.5 MPG with them. I was between the Revo 2's and the BF's but I chose the BF's because of the snowflake rating. If they ever make it law in Ontario to run snow tires I'll be covered. I loved my Revo 2's when I had them as well. Can't go wrong with either tire IMO.

Yeah I went with the 265/70/17 BFG tires on my truck. I like the fact the speedo is now reading correct though. These tires are about 11lbs heavier each than the stockers. I knew I was going to loose a little on the mileage when I put these tires on(I did factor the % difference from the speedo correction for the MPG loss) . I probably wouldn't of noticed a difference with the Revo's because I would of gotten the P-metric size. Oh well, both tires would of been a good choice. I've got the air pressure set at 35psi currently so we'll see how the tread wears.

dude I rep revos all day. I drive a 2005 prerunner and I was able to make it from mammoth mountain to San Jose. driving through Tahoe after a blizzard hit. Without chains! I know not the smartest things but my chains broke and had no means to get any.
