    I need help.

I have read all the threads and looked at all the pictures on line.

    I Want:

BFG 285/65/18 on Chrome XD Monster (4.5 BS/-12 OS) with 3" Lift

I drive on road 100 of time.

Just want to freshen up the look.

I want to maintain ride quality.

    My Truck:

    Black
    2008 Tacoma Spoort
    Double Cab

    My Issues:

    1. Some people say it will not work (serious rub even with lift)
    2. I see no picture of this combo (No one loves Chrome any more)

    Can anyone help?

Pioneer Double Din with BT, iPod, etc. Boston Acoustic components in all 4 doors with a Sony amp, powered 8" sub. Ultra gauge, Tom Tom...
I run 285/70/17s with 3" of lift and the fronts rub the rear of the wheelwell at the innermost edge of the mud flap. They only rub on full lock turns when hitting an edge like a driveway or entrance. The flaps come off today and the flare corners will get trimmed. I don't think I will have to trim the body mount. Only time will tell.

The tires are mounted on stock rims with 1.25" spacers.

    Hope I am being helpful.

    Thanks.

I want the BFG TA KO 285/65/18 and chrome XD Monster combo.

I just can not find anyone that has done it.

I see it with Nitto and Cooper 285/60/18's. May have to go with Cooper's.

They are 1" more narrow than 285/65's. I would like the extra inch.

I do not want it to stick outside the fenders.

So, I will probably go with 5.71 BS and +18mm OS.

I will try w/o lift first.

I do not mind wheel well trim but want to avoid body issues.

I guess I will call Discount Tire to see if they think it can be done.

I'm pretty sure that a 285/65/18 is the same diameter as a 285/70/17 is the same as a 285/75/16. I think the height is the same for all 3.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Also, all the research I've done says a 4.5" BS is the way to go.

Like I said, I'll be corrected pretty soon if I'm wrong.

    the 285/65 r18 is actually about 1/4 inch shorter than a 285/70 r17, I don't see a problem. You will need a 4.5 backspacing.

    Just to clarify:

You think BFG TA KO 285/65/18 with XD Monster 4.5 BS -12 OS will work with no lift?

+18 offset will likely hit the ucas, IMO.

I have seen people on here say that.

Discount Tire said not likely with 5.7bs and +18os.

But, you know how that goes???

I decided to go with the black monsters.

We will see how it goes tomorrow.

I will take pictures and post tomorrow.

    I may later.

But likely just 1.5-2.0". I like the way it looks now and do not want to affect the ride quality. The new tires and 18" wheels added nearly 2 inches over the 265/65/17's.

Plus, I removed the side steps and do not like the extra step in distance. It's my wife's truck, but i now drive it more for errands. My wife has issues getting in/out with a skirt.

It is definitely an attention getter with the black KMC XD Monsters and 285 BFG's. I also love the no chrome - all black look.

I just had the front windows tinted with 20%.

Right now, I am going to focus on a xtang tri-fold bed cover.

    And maybe a skid plate.

I forgot to mention the cost at Discout Tire:

$1,660 out the door. Including TPMS re-built, mount and balance.

Took al little haggling, but they price matched and made the deal. Buy 4 get one free (or $222 per tire). KMC XD Monsters were $180 each.

    Everywhere else was $1,900+

Local lift shops wanted $2,300 - Rediculous......

Discount Tire did a wonderful job for me and always have.

Well, the gorilla glue did not hold the fender well back for more than 2 weeks to prevent the rub. It appears the rubbing cause the glue to break loose.

I will move on to screwing it back.
