Nitto TG tire pressure

I recently had 285/65/r18 Nitto TG's installed. the mechanic set the tires at 30psi. Ive noticed my gas mileage dramatically dropped and i only moved up about a half an inch or so in tire size. I checked the recommended PSI on the tire and it says 80!!! Any ideas on what PSI i should be running for better performance/gas mileage?

 

Do the chalk method. This method is a bit time consuming but I love it. Get some white chalk and make a thick line across the tread of all 4 tires. Start at I would guess 55 or 60 psi. After you have the mark drive forward a few feet make sure you stay straight and on good pavement or cement. Stop and check the chalk lines your goal is to have the chalk almost worn competely off, you will need to air up and down the tires to achieve this. Your rear tires will require less psi as they are not carring as much weight.

 

I run 50 psi in my 285/70/17 Nitto TG's. seems to be ok, thats what my tire guy recommended. I rotate every oil change, with 25000 miles on them they look a little under half tread wear.

 

at 50 psi is it a bumpy ride

 

Feels like a tank, specially with it being a DC LB, 3" lift and 33's....Love it!!!
