Spare Tire & Jacking ???

Went from a 265/70/16 to a 275/70/17 and wondering if I could still use the original spare for emergencies? If not, then I can pick up a 5th tire but would need a basic steel wheel to mount it on that would fit under the bed. Not going to purchase another 200.00 chrome rim just to store under the bed.

Also, since I lifted and the distance from the ground to the frame is not 16.5", what are people using to jack to change a flat? All the bottle jacks I have seen online/stores to not go high enough anymore. I have read about the Hi-Lift jacks, but that would only work on the rear for me (under the tow hitch), but not the front.

Its best to put the spare tire into the rotation. I did after matching the rim. If you're serious about having a spare tire, this is the best way to go.
The stock tire will work in an emergency for SHORT distances when in 2wd.
Carry a couple 2"x10"x10" boards to put under the stock jack.

 

I hear you about the spare rotation, but not going to purchase another 200.00 chrome rim to mount under the truck, will just tear it up. Would need a basic stock steel rim that will fit the spare tire. I can use the current one right now if emergency dictates it.
As for the wood, great idea, but no where to store it (now). Behind my back seats is full with audio equipment.

My spare stock stylized steel rim doesn't get beat up. Backside faces up and the hanger engages the bolt holes. It's just dirty when you pull it out.

Maybe you can bolt them to the bed rail.
