Steering wheel shimmy after getting new tires

Just replaced the crappy Dunlops with these, love the tires, they grip really nice in snow and ice and behave well on the raod, BUT...I have noticed that the steering wheel has seemed to develop a shimmy at highway speeds. Its not really bad at all, and does not cause any handling problems, just really annoying sometimes is all, would anyone know if the tires are causing this? They are the same size and configuration as the Dunlops were.

 

Might have lost a weight or they may just need to be re-balanced. Swap the front to back and see if it goes away.

 

Sounds like a tire balance issue. Take them back to the shop and have them rebalance them.

 

Sounds like a balance issue or you have a bad tire. My truck did the same thing from 55-65 before I got new tires. Now it's gone.

i recently purchased a 2011 tacoma double cab, with a long bed. 4 x 4. Dunlop tires, been in shop 6 times with wheel shimmy. dealer checked allignment, rebalanced tires numerous times. No fix yet. Steering wheel shakes 60 -72 mph. passenger looks like a its going to shake off. anyone else with this problem????????????

 

Have you tried road force balancing them?

 

Just from 60-72 MPH? Have you had the dealer check your front axle/drive is bent? Is it more of a vibration or noticeable wheel shimmy, and have you had a friend drive beside you to see if your wheel wobbles?

After I replaced my stock dunlops on my 2006 with bfg at's I had the same steering wheel shimmy/shake at highway speeds. Had it aligned and balanced twice but it didn't fix it. Finally I got new wheels to replace the stocks wheels and the steering wheel shake stopped after that, one of the stock wheels was slightly bent and that was the thing that was causing it. That might not be whats causing your steering wheels shake but just letting you know my experience.

 

Had the same problem when I first got my Duratracs. Took it back to Discount, they remounted balanced every tire/wheel and the problem was fixed.
