BFG All Terrain T/A KO, 265/75/16

Hey guys, I just moved to Quebec where they are enforcing a winter tire law. I currently have the stock 265/70/16 BFG Rugged Trail's on my '07 TRD sport. Since I need to get winter rated tires I was looking at the All Terrain's and was thinking of going up to the 265/75/16. Does anyone know if these will fit or cause any problems? The tire store is telling me that if you change more than 3% from the stock tire size, it screws everything up, and therefore they won't even sell me the 75's. Is this true? The 265/75/16's are only 1" bigger than the stock tires, so I wouldn't think that to make much of a difference. Anyone have any suggestions or thoughts? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

 

i think there full of it if you ask me the tire isnt getting wider so it shouldnt rub.

 

I had 265/75/16 BFG AT on my truck with no lift and had no problems. those tires are excellent winter tires!

 

Great tires, kind of expensive though. So what is the definition of a winter tire ? Is it the tread pattern ? sipes ? tire compound ? What damn it !! I must know !?!

 

I just moved from the SR5 Stock Dunlop 245/75/16 .. to the BFG T/Ako 265/75/16 lastnight love them so far, havent had any noticeable issues as of yet. Tread Quarters said something or other about they might not fit, i told them to put em on and dont worry about the details

 

Hey thanks guys. Thats what I had figured as well, I didn't think that it would be any wider than the stock tire. They are a bit pricy, but I haven't found anything cheaper that I'd be willing to put on my truck. I wanted to get Cooper STT's, but they are impossible to find up here. Anyone know if all the tire manufacturers that report the tire being 265/75/16 for example, would be the relatively the same dimension of tire?

What is the definition of winter tires?
The regulation, adopted on September 17, 2008, defines tires specifically designed for winter driving as those that meet one of the following criteria prior to December 15, 2014:

• Tires on which one of the following inscriptions appear: Alaska, Arctic, A/T or AT Blizzard, Ice, LT, Nordic, Snow (but not mud and snow), Stud, Ultratraction or Winter

or

• Tires on which the icon representing a mountain with a superimposed snowflake appears.

 

If that is the case then the BFGs wont work for you they have A/T M+S stamped on them

 

Sorry, should have included this:

What happens if a tire bears both the “LT and “M+S” inscriptions?
A tire marked LT can be used in the winter period (until 2014).

Plus the tire shop and the dealer say they're legal. Its a little screwed, but I think as long as it says "LT" its ok. I think the stock rugged trails say "M+S" too (not 100% sure tho), but it only says "T" in front of the size.

Right on, thanks guys. Yeah I'm going to go ask to buy the tires, and get them installed somewhere else. I think the issue was that somebody at one point had them install tires that weren't the same size as OEM, and then had problems with their vehicle and tried to blame it on the tire shop. But even the Toyota dealership didn't have a problem putting them on when I asked, they just wanted too much for the tires.

 

So I got the tires installed. They look great and seem to work fine in the snow. No problems with rubbing or anything. I'll post pics as soon as I can. Thanks for all the input.

they sure aren't cheap!
