265 vs 285 I can't decide

I just got an access cab TRD off road and want to lift and get new wheels and tires. I've read a bunch on here but Its pretty hard to make decisions without seeing things in person. Im hoping someone here can lead me in the right direction before I buy a bunch of stuff.
I'm planning on 5100's up front, OME springs with the shocks set either at zero or .85. In the rear the icon leaf spring at 1.5 inches.
Wheels= 16 in Konig counter steers with 5.5 inch backspace and 8 inches wide.
The big question is the tires. My install shop said it should be no problem to run 285's with the lift but down south motorsports thinks I may need UCA's to keep it from feeling wandering at highway speeds. I want to run procomp xtreme all terrains either 265/75 or 285. If I run the 265 I would set the 5100 at zero and hopefully have a nice ride even at highway speeds. Im worried the tire may look a little dinky tho as I currently have some cheap 265/70/16 on my stock wheels and they don't look good or big.
So what do you all think about 265 vs 285? Will 265 look good or undersized? Will 285 look really big or just right. I want it to look aggressive, but not like a miniature monster truck lol. Thx

 

Those wheels won't work for 285s anyways. You would need wheel spacers.

 

You have no clue what your getting into with 285's.

Unless you want to start cutting steel and rewelding stay far away from them....

Research what others have had to do in order to run them and get clearance. I'm far to lazy to list all the required mods to do it.

If you plan on keeping your Tacoma for a while go 265 75 16 first, then next set upgrade if you'r still interested. I went through 5 set of tires with my last Toyota (1992) pick up. You'll have lots of time to try the 285's. That's my plan with my almost new Tacoma.

 

I've installed a lot of Konig Countersteer Offroads 16x8" et 0mm (4.5" backspacing) with 285/75/16 tires on Tacomas lifted 2.5" ~ 3".

Plastic over fender and fender liner trimming is necessary. Other than that I never had any issues.

No spacers necessary either.

With that said, given that you want to set the 5100's to zero or .85", I think your best off going with 265/75/16. This will still look really good, and you won't have as many (or maybe not any) issues with rubbing at all.

Gas mileage too. I had to trim alot to get my 285s to turn but Im running spacers.

I'll probably be going for sure, just dont know if Im going to be trailing in my truck yet, Im waiting to get a new bumper fabbed up w/ a full skid. If I dont Ill ride shotgun again w/ someone and just record you guys.

I cant even explain how long Ive thought about this. Finally decided 265's were going on next month. Like they said, cab mount chop, spacers with stocks, or 4.5 of backspace with aftermarket wheels, cutting plastic. I decided I could use the money for other stuff right now then worry about wheels and bigger tires later. Seriously rattled my brain for months

 

In short, if you want to run 265's, dont change anything.

If you want to run 285's, be prepared to replace your entire suspension and then some.

Lifts are done primarily to accomodate larger tires btw.

 

Ive seen a few members in person with 285/75/16 with no lift they don't have a problem and they also go wheeling with no issues

X2.... you can't even turn your steering wheel to full lock on a flat road.

I know a local guy with a 1" body lift, 3" suspension lift, cab mount chop, the right sized wheels, beat the shit out of his fenders, chopped fenders, and he still rubs.

I rub when I offroad. Shit, I rub on-road after a day of wheeling (and before I get an alignment)
